World War Two / RAF WW2 records abbreviation help please.
« on: Friday 07 December 18 23:22 GMT (UK)  »
I have some abbreviations I can't work out in my Grandads Raf services record from WW2.
Please can anyone shed any light on the following?

- 6s of TT HH (9/5/1941)
- 6TTSHH (26/9/1941)
-197 Squadron 3099 S.E (14/9/1943)

Thank you,
-K

Hi,
Thanks for your replies, they're much appreciated. I have tried Wickenby, with no luck. I'll start on the others.
If anyone is looking for squadrons 12 or 626, there are lots of things within the Wickenby archives, and the curator was really good.
I also tried Tangmere, which has almost nothing historical surviving.
He didn't speak about the war, not unlike many others, so we haven't seen images of him or medals etc, though I know he had some.
I knew nothing at all until I got the services record.
Needle in a haystack! x

Hi,
I'm new!
I have got my grandfathers RAF services record from WW2, I am looking for any photos of squadrons, I would really love a photo with him in! I have the following information on where he was:

1RC Penarth- feb 1941
9RC Blackpool- April 41
6TTS May 41
109 squadron- Dec 41
Wroughton Hospital Dec 41
109 squadron Boscombe Down (A)- July 42
Stradishall (B)- August 42
12 Squadron- Nov 42
12 squadron, 197 squadron- Jan 43
197 squadron 3099 S.E- Sept 43
Tangmere- August 43
R.V Hospital- Dec 43
Back to Tangmere
Came out of the RAF in 45.

He then went on the the merchant navy.

Grandad's name was Victor Fitzsimmons. He was a fitter to aircraft, AC2, then AC1. Under special qualifications I have Typhoon and Lancaster.

Can anybody help at all? Drawing a blank on where to find squadron photos.

Thank you! x
