Australia / Re: Shea / Taylor - Around Grafton NSW
« on: Tuesday 14 April 20 11:33 BST (UK)  »

Does anyone have any information about Cyril Gordon Hart (b.1886 d. 1960) or any information about the relationship between the Hart family and the Shea family

Thanks

Hi,
Richard Cecil Hart and Theresa Shea are my great-grandparents.
I do not have any information on Cyril Gordon Hart - didn't know he existed until now.

i do have info on Denis coming out to AU, where and when they lived after leaving Ireland and moving to AU.

Mary's middle name was Agnes from what I had found out.

Cecil and Theresa shacked up after Theresa had already had her first child, and they had 2 boys together. However Theresa's first child I do not know who the father is.
Cecil and Theresa never married, or at least I could never find any record of this.
Sarah Ann moved to Millmerran, QLD to be with her sister Theresa after her husband died.

I am curious if you have any info on Theresa or her siblings - what they did, where they ended up etc or any of the ancestors from Ireland - Denis's grandfather Micheal was irish, but have no info on DOB, where born, parents, siblings, wife etc.

Theresa's son said he knew very little, but that he thought that Robert was a cop, and that one of the sisters died young by taking her own life, probably Delia.

PM me if you want.

cya
Dave

George (Mr G H READ) immigrated on the Osterley leaving England in December 1924.  His address in the UK is 80 St Margaret's Road, Lowestoft, which is the same as the 1911 census.

He was contracted to land in Sydney and his intended place of future residence was New Zealand.  The address given, 36 Canterbury Street, Lyttleton, was occupied by a shipwright named Gordon Strachan MILLER in 1918.

Where did you find the passenger list that states Georges address as being Lowestoft. I could only see an AU quarantine list with his name on for Osterley ship.

thanks
Dave

Could he possibly be a cousin or half brother Anderson is Florence Wrights father's surname

Her father was Christopher WRIGHT and mother Elizabeth.

Her christening: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939F-RXZ1-P?i=912

Her birth:

WRIGHT, FLORENCE SHEBA ELIZABETH mmn BLOWERS
GRO Reference: 1875  M Quarter in MUTFORD AND LOTHINGLAND  Volume 04A  Page 754

1981, father JOHN: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27D-BTVD

1862 Elizabeth Blowers married Henry BUGGS at Mutford 1870 she married John White at Mutford.

Jamjar

As you have stated above on christening doc it shows Charles and Elizabeth as Florences parents. On the census it states John and Elizabeth.

On a family tree I have seen is shows:
Father John Wright b 1835
Mother Elizabeth Blowers b 1840 - d 1926
Children:
Florence B E Wright b 1875 - d 1912
Thomas J Wright b 1880 - d 1901

Florence B E Wright is unusual so I doubt there is more than in Carlton-Colville

https://www.theland.com.au/story/5598165/drought-reduction-sheep-sale-at-hay/    Eurolie Merinos and the Matthews Bros.   .... perhaps our OP could consider contacting the current generation to see if there's any archival history to share.

JM

Contacted them years ago and they told me there was no records from that time.

Added - he was aged 19.

Debra  :)

I am wondering if this is my George or not.  It looks like Georges DOB was in 1905 going by christening docs from local church, so age etc above is correct.
But his nephew said Herbert went first, then George follow in 1928.

I just read Dave's previous thread about meeting his sister Rose in Melbourne. Are we able to find any record of Rose travelling to Australia?

I wonder how he dealt with the name change when introducing his future wife to his sister. Or have I misread this.

Does Rose have any descendants who would have heard about her visit to Australia. Or did she stay here?

Regards
Jennaya

My grandmother had stated she meet a Rose, who was introduced as his sister in Melbourne in the late 1930's. However there is no Rose in the family, so I have no idea who this is.

Even though a person doesn't need a reason to change their name, I would hazard a guess that for most people there was some sort of thought process behind it.

He didnt just change his surname, he changed his whole name, year of birth and country of birth.

If the OP could find any descendents of his brother Herbert, perhaps they will have some oral history to share.

It looks like he changed his name between visiting Gladesville and working in Hay.

Jennaya

I agree with you.
He never saw his brother in AU from what I understand.
