Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: The Glen Freshwater IOW

Hi. I am a descendent of Thomas Murrow, who was probably the proprietor of this hotel. He is also listed as keeper of the Albion (possibly the same establishment), in Freshwater. Happy to assist in your research. My links come from there to the Cornfords and Pearsons in Camberwell, E London. Regards. Paul (McRory). You can get me directly at (*)

Hello Janice,

Excellent; thanks very much for that.  I'll look into these names and see what I can find out.  I wonder if any of their descendants watch this board?

Thanks very much for that - I didn't know!  Would you know where I might be able to get more info on that topic?  It's an angle that I hadn't anticipated.

However, I suspect that there was some movement of my family to Scotland, but I just don't know when.  Not sure if the 'McGrory' spelling is much to go on here.  I used to get my name spelt in many ways when I was at school, I remember.  I'd be similarly interested to look at the lineage of Scottish McGrorys such as James McGrory, the footballer, who I understand had something of a reputation in his day.  Any relatives of his out there?

Scotland / McGRORY/McRORY - Irish Connections?
« on: Tuesday 21 February 06 19:43 GMT (UK)  »
Researching the McGrory/McRory family from Donegal.  I'm trying to find a link between these and the Scottish McGrorys, who seem to be around the Paisley/Glasgow areas.

I'm particularly keen to trace the family links between the two countries; when did they come from Ireland?  Who came over?  I have an extensive tree from the Donegal side, but just can't link it to Scotland.  Can anyone help?

Donegal / McGRORYs/McRORYs from the Inishowen
« on: Tuesday 21 February 06 19:31 GMT (UK)  »
Ongoing research project on the McGrory or McRory families and descendants, from around the Buncrana/Dunree/Tonduff area of the Inishowen.  I am a relative/descendant, keen to get in touch with anyone who has heard of us and/or may know of one of us.

My GF was Patrick McRory (formerly McGrory)(b. 1892), son of John McGrory (b. 1844) and Ellen McLaughlin.  Paddy's siblings were James (b. 1879), Edward (b. ab 1880), Roseanne, Dan, Frances (Fannie)(b. 1885), Ellen (b. ab 1887), John (b. 1890), Phil (b. 1894), Bernard (b. 1900), and a couple of others.

From this start I have a 500-name tree and contact with many descendants who have since emigrated.  I would really like to get in touch with any other family members who I don't know of yet - especially from the local area - to find out more about us.  Will happily share my research with anyone who is interested: and keen to get the younger generation of the family involved also.

Other names linked to us: McLaughlin, Toland, Docherty, Rodden, McConnellogue, Ferguson, Connolly.  Please get in touch.

Paul
