Thanks for the reply!

I don't have William Turnbull's death date yet.
Am trying to trace him from the info I have on his son.

John Turnbull b.1834/1835
Another user kindly looked up John's marriage to Isabella Ann Oliver in 1855, a few months ago for me on this thread, which gave me their parents names and occupation - William Turnbull (mason) - (see reply #3 https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=809561.msg6693692#new).

At the moment I was going with the 1851 census info:
William L Turnbull, age 41 (stone mason) and Margaret, age 41, living at Gateshead, Durham. There's a John Turnbull age 16 as part of the household.
Reply #14 here https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=809481.9 has William and Margaret (Brown) marrying in 1834 Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I am struggling to trace the family further back from that...

Hello !

Wondering if someone could look up this marriage for me:

William Turnbull and Margaret Brown - 16.03.1834, All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I am interested in finding their parents. I’ve found the following options for William based on an estimated birth year for him of approx 1809/1810:
- John & Isabella Atkinson
- William & Mary Black
- William & Anne
- William & Sarah Dunn
- John & Isabella Stuart

Thanks :)

Victorian registry indexes are available online.  I strongly advise getting the 1877 marriage certificate.

WOW !
Thank you so much for the FAST replies !

The "Gateshead, Durham" reference was listed as the birthplace of a Robert Thomas TURNBULL b.1855 (April May June). - A page on the Turnbull Clan site had b.1950 Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland so I wrote that down as a secondary possibility?

Re: Robert Thomas TURNBULL second marriage to Rachel Maria Henry in 1907. I also have that along with 4 children. (Robert Paul b.1902 d.1927, Dulcie Violet b.1907, Charles Percy John b.1911, William Harold 1914-1914).
He had 11 children from his first marriage to Caroline Tucker in 1877 (one of which was Frederick Isaac Turnbull).
The Births Deaths and Marriages Victoria list a Robt Thos TURNBULL d.1919 in Melbourne Australia. Parent 1 is UNKNOWN and Parent 2 is Robt Jno TURNBULL.

Hi!

Looking for some assistance in tracing my family from Aus back to the UK and have gotten stuck!

So far I have -->

Frederick John TURNBULL (my great grandfather)

son of

Frederick Isaac TURNBULL b.1880 / Collingwood, Australia

son of

Robert Thomas TURNBULL b.1855 d.1919 / Gateshead, Durham, England
& Caroline Martha TUCKER b.1857 d.1898 / Prahan, Australia
(Married 1877 in Australia)

son of

??? Robert John TURNBULL ???

- Would love to confirm the parents of Robert Thomas TURNBULL. The Turnbull Clan Association lists his father as Robert John TURNBULL "b. say 1825" but there is no source for this info. The closest match I have found is a Robert John Turnbull b.1823 (March) in Lowick, Nothumberland to Peter TURNBULL and Ann GRAHAM or a John TURNBULL b.1823 (June) St Hildas, South Shields, Durham to also to a Peter and Ann Turnbull !

- Would also like to find out when Robert Thomas TURNBULL emmigrated. The closest match I have found for this is a Robt Thomas TURNBULL arriving in Melbourne from Liverpool in 1859. The Victorian Inward Passenger List 1839-1923 lists the following other TURNBULLs arriving that same year from Liverpool - Ann, Geo E, George, Jno, Margt, Robt, Robt Thos and Wm. I tried to find out more info about these names but struggled.

Any help on where / how I should go about looking to extend my search would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks :)
