Northumberland / Re: Northumberland Surname Interests
« on: Tuesday 21 March 06 19:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
One of my Argentinean ancestors was Francisco (Francis) Hardee. His daughter María del Carmen married James George Davison, b. 25 FEB 1797 i Branton Presbyterian, Northumberland...
I suspect that Francis Hardee, that supposedly was working as surveyor in Argentina, may have been from Northumberland. No one knows... The guy just disappeared without a trace.
But I think it could be a good idea to search him this way!

Northumberland / Re: Davison, Gibson, Vardy families

Thank you, but I was familiar with those facts...  :-\
I think the only way to find more information about my ancestors, is to search death-records from most of the parishes of northern Northumberland. The name Vardy is rather common in Alnwick, but I didn't find any record matching Jane Vardy's birth or marriage. There are potential parents for her, but no records to proof it. Unfortunately many of the dates and facts that are to find in the IGI are imaginary and without any documentation, and worthless to seriously working genealogists.
What can be of some substance are the "Banns of Marriage between George Davison of the parish of Wooler and Sarah Gibson of the Chapelry of Cornhill were thrice legally published in this Chapel by me Richard Powley, Curate" [Corhill parish register 1796]

Other Countries / British arrivals to Buenos Aires pre 1852...
« on: Sunday 05 March 06 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
Nearly 900 pages of individual information (some of the notes are complete biographies) about a good number of the Scots, Irish and Englishmen (and their families) who arrived to Buenos Aires until 1852 - most of them to settle as farmers or merchants in the La Plata area. The book, called “Diccionario de Británicos en Buenos Aires – Primera Época” is written by Maxine Hanon, and can be of very good help for family researchers with connections to southern South America. It was edited in Buenos Aires in July 2005.

Northumberland / Davison, Gibson, Vardy families
« on: Saturday 04 March 06 09:39 GMT (UK)  »
James George Davison, b. 1797 in Branton Presbyterian, d. 1867 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was my GGG grandfather. His parents were George Davison, b. 8 AUG 1772 (in Whittingham?) d. 27 SEP 1848 (where?), and Sarah Gibson, b. JAN 1771 (in Ilderton? - there was a farm in Calder near Roddam where they lived). George's parents were James Davison and Jane Vardy, but I don't have anything about them more than a sibling to George, Isabel Davison, b. 1 FEB 1782 in Cornhill on Tweed.
I would appreciate any information about Sarah Gibson's birth, and of the origin of James Davison and his wife Jane Vardy.

Dunbartonshire / Rosneath: MacDougall/Douglas
« on: Friday 03 March 06 23:05 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for the birthplace of Hugh MacDougall, born about 1785-1795 and married 23 NOV 1816 with Janet Douglas. They had at least 5 children in Rosneath, before they emigrated to Argentina where they settled. The children were Mary b. 20 DEC 1816, Christina b. 5 DEC 1818, James 20 AUG 1820, Catharine 11 JUL 1822 and Janet 1 JAN 1825.
Janet Douglas was born 22 APR 1794 in Rosneath. Her parents were James Douglas and Catherine Walker, so it seams that they lived with Janet's parents until they went to South America.
I'll be grateful for any suggestion.

George from Sweden
