For Sale / Wanted / Events / WW1 Medals, Ollerenshaw, G
« on: Monday 29 October 12 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
I've recently found a set of WW1 medals among my late father-in-law's belongings.

They bear the name of G Ollerenshaw, which has no connection to our family.  We can only guess that they came from a house clearance (my father-in-law's business).

I would love to reunite them with the correct Ollerenshaw family.

Please contact me with relevant details, if you believe you have a claim to them.

Hi Barry
I believe you did provide me with this information previously via another posted query on the Vivash family.

It's been most helpful - I've been able to expand my tree considerably
Thank you

Thank you both so much - it's never easy searching in another country, so all pointers are welcome :)
Will certainly follow these up

Thanks Althea,
I did have a quick look online for a will, but I'm not familiar with NZ records (I'm in UK), so not really sure if I'm looking in the right place.

Would local newspapers of the time be available online?

Thanks
Caz

BTW apologies to all for the size of the photo - didn't expect it to be so BIG!

New Zealand Completed Requests / DAY family heirlooms - help please!

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes:
My grandfather, Lawrence Leslie DAY (known as Leslie) emigrated to NZ in 1968/69.  In December 1969 at the age of 75, he married Elsie Beatrice Simpson (nee Burn).  He died in Levin (near Wellington) in 1980.  I assume Elsie is also deceased (she was born 1905).
When he went to NZ, he took with him (as far as we know) family photos and his father's medals.  I attach a photo of my g-grandfather (also called Lawrence Day) wearing said medals. My father would love to track down anything that survives - copies of photos etc.  The medals would be fantastic, but a picture of them would do!  I know this is a long shot, but any suggestions as to how I'd go about looking for them would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Hi Emma,
I'm afraid I can't help with your Sharps, but just thought I'd mention that my GGG grandfather William DAY (b1794) was a coastguard and was stationed at Cromer from 1840 to 1853.  My GG grandfather Robert DAY (b1824) was also a coastguard, stationed at Cromer from 1848 until 1856, so our ancestors were probably neighbours and colleagues.

I know this doesn't help you, but I was struck by the coincidence!
Good luck with your search
Caz

Does anyone know where to find service records for the ACC? Specifically I'm looking for Edward Patrick Earle, born c 1906 Keighley, Yorks.  He was a Sergeant in the ACC in 1944/45 (I do have his service number, but not to hand), apparently serving in Kent (where he fathered 2 children  :o - long story!)  but I've had no luck tracking him down, despite trying various military archives and websites.

Any pointers gratefully received
