Family History Beginners Board / Re: Niels Hansen Holm: Parents??

Hi Ian, Fantastic research. Thank your Danish Friend from me also. I think you should have another star added to your rating!! There have certainly been a variety of trades within my family. I noted with interest how the use of "Nielsen and Datter" was used to indicate that they were the son or daughter of Niels. That type of naming was around in the Medieval times, and is how a lot of surnames were founded. Obviously Niels wife Marie was the daughter of Ole (Olsdatter)?? Previously I had seen her surname as Olsen, but now I am a bit unsure whether it was? or if it was a reference to a son?? Any clue? It may shed some light on who her parents were. Regards Christian :)

Thanks Ian, I appreciate your research skills ;D You've definitely found the right bloke. I had wondered if a lack of records was going to be against me. It looks like Niels parents names were Hans Christenson Holm and Anne Marie Holm? If I read the Birth certificate right. I wonder whether his first wife Anna died from disease or during child birth? I have seen that he had 7 children with his 2nd wife Marie.(thanks to you help earlier) Karen was the oldest and my 3x Greatgrandfather Adolph was the Youngest born in 1799. Many thanks, Regards Christian. ;)

Family History Beginners Board / Niels Hansen Holm: Parents??

Hi, I am looking for the parents of Niels Hansen Holm ( my 4x Greatgrandfather) Niels was born in Kobenhavn? around 1741-1743 depending on which census you look at. ( 1787 or 1801) His Occupation was a Braendeviins Braender ( Schnapps Distiller) He was apparently married twice. I know Marie Olsen, born 1757? was one wife, they were the parents of my 3x Greatgrandfather Adolph Andreas Holm. I have no knowledge of his other wife? I have struggled a bit trying to find Niels parents, as there seems to be so many people called Niels Hansen Holm. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, as I'm a bit lost. ??? Regards Christian.

After having a bit of a break, to finalise and submit my application (which was successful.) to establish a Headstone for John otto Steen & Theodor Waldemar Holm. And with a big thank's to you guy's at Roots Chat for making it possible. ;D I am back. This time I am looking to find the parents of Niels Hansen Holm,(my 4x Greatgrandfather) Niels was born in Kobenhavn? around 1741-1743 depending on which census you look at.(1787 or 1801) His occupation was a Braendeviins Braender (Schnapps distiller) He was apparently married twice. Hi Ian, Your research skills are invaluable ;D It look's like Ane's Father's name was Karl Heinrich Altenburg? a definite German name. Unfortunately his occupation escaped my lowly deciphering skills. ??? Regards Christian. :D

Fantastic!!! Thanks so much, my 5x great grandmother's name has been sitting in front of me the whole time. ;D I thought she was a separate entry because of the line under her name. Like they say the answer is right under our noses. The same name's should have got my attention. Hopefully I can find Maren Altenburg's husband in the maze and add another branch to the tree. this is getting exciting. Regards Christian ;D

Thank's for that great piece of information Ian. A ships captain in the family!! certainly a different job to my other ancestors so far. As for Anna's surname it looks like you're right either that or it's Allenburg or Dallenburg. Thankfully my German is a bit better than my Danish, so I could make out some of it. I will have to name my family tree Yggdrasil. ;D Regards Christian.

Thanks Ian, I am guessing that Ane Margaretha was Johan Jorgen Thrane's wife? Do you happen to know what his occuption was? All these census's have the most beautiful writing, but some of it is hard work deciphering. It's interesting how their names are in English and the occupations are in Danish, and my Danish is definitely not the greatest. Regard's Christian. :)
