Here’s what I have (I think) figured out so far… it’s my whole family tree so if you search for Linard you should find the right line :)

Other family names in the tree: Bottom, Dowse, Humphries, Gomersall, Rayner, Forrester, Goddard, Linard, Gauchey, Moore, Bouffler

Thank you :) I have actually gone through all of the posts I could find on here related to this at all, I was wondering if anyone had any information that hasn’t been posted yet or stories passed down the family :)

Family History Beginners Board / Gauchey-Linard family Help!

I am looking for any information about the Gauchey-Linard (sometimes just Gauchey, sometimes just Linard, sometimes Gaucher!) in East London.
As far as I can tell they've been a pretty hard bunch to figure out. My mum says that her grandmother (May Lilian Linard) said that when her father died (William Edward Linard, born Gauchey I think) some other people from the family came round to the house and smashed some ornaments in search of... something? Maybe money? Something valuable? Not sure but definitely interested in this mystery :)
I've managed to get back to Sebastian Francis Gauchey Linard b. 1807 d. 1885, and his wife Mary Bouffler b. 1818 d. 1895, but no futher back than that. I feel like that's still pretty far back, but I don't have any answers about the Gauchey-Linard mystery... Why did the names keep changing? And why is it so hard to trace!

If anyone knows anything or can point me in the right direction I would be so grateful!
