Hi Sandra,  William and Sarah Beaven/Beavan/Beven were my G/G/Grandparents.  Their daughter Ann born Little Birch 1849 was my great grandmother and I have only just started delving deeper into this family.  Ann, known as Annie for a large part of her life, Married George Stannard, born Little Waldingfield, Suffolk, 24 January, 1852.  He went on to become a Police Inspector in the Metropolitan Police in London.  Annie (Ann) died in June or July 1921 and is buried in St. Pancras cemetery.  They had 14 children, 6 or whom died very young.  Of the eight survivors I have now got contact with descendants of 5 of them (and I think getting closer to contact with the descendants of a sixth)  Another one of them had no descendants.  My next goal is to make contact with living descendants of William and Sarah.  (As many as possible!!)

My G Gfather was a police officer in the London Met, joining in June 1873 at Great Scotland Yard.  He retired in 1898 as an Inspector.  The Metropolitan Records Office was a great help and I have a copy of all his postings.  What I havn't got is a photo of him.  I had hoped that the Force would have had a photo record of all past officers.  If anyone has a clue as to how it may be possible to find one I would love to hear from you.  I had no idea that he had been a Police Officer until about 6 years ago.  It is a special interest as I am also a retired Police Inspector from Queensland, Australia.
Dave.
