Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Frederick & Isabella Emerson
« on: Wednesday 11 April 18 21:31 BST (UK)  »
I hope some improvement can be made. My equipment is getting a bit old and out of date.
Frederick & Isabella and the family seem to be at a Christening sometime between 1904 and 1908.
They had eleven children.

Just a try out of the blue.
You mentioned Leek in the post above. I've been trying to find out about Alton Towers during the the WW2 years. I know it was used as a training camp for the North Staffordshire Regiment as the details appear on my father-in-law's army records for 1940 but from then on nothing. He lived in Leek all his life, except for his holiday in North Africa and Italy that is.
Just one of my many family history unfinished boxes. I don't really want to get tangled up with Kew yet.
Any ideas?

Many thanks Rodney, I am pleased as punch. You must have a good memory joining the two together.
I got an email today from Root-Chat.
I've bought the photo, I think, as I'm not a regular follower of ebay and no pay-pal account.

Many thanks for your reply.
It seems that none fit. Could you possibly try Lincoln and Rutland for George.
May I ask what you are  using?

I've been toying with sending for the Merchant Taylors' Company Membership Index 1530-1928 from Docklands Ancestors but at £31, I decided to wait till I found somebody who has used it so they can give me a report before I bought it.

I hope you are still doing the kind business in helping us find things which would otherwise cost the earth.

Would you kindly have a look if any of the below are mentioned.

They were both tailors, and I know from the censuses that John was a Master till his death in 1877.

George Emerson
Christened: 30 July 1769 St Margaret, Leicester.
John Emerson
Born: 29 Nov 1791
Christened: 11 Dec 1791 All Saints, Leicester.

Both Claude and Eric are distant relatives. They are the nephews of my grand-father.

Their father committed suicide in 1911, leaving their mother Isabella Augusta Emerson with  five  girls and two boys to look after in Yeovil.   The two boys Claude 7 and Eric 5 ended up with Dr Barnardos and thence to Canada a couple of years later. I've contacted Dr B. but they will not give me any details as I am not a 'close relative'. Could be you are closer? If so you could send for the file of documents and possible photographs for the sum of £80.

I wonder how you are connected to Eric and Claude.

Thanks for the reply Gadget.

I got a not too bad print A4 by changing the colour to black and white and a bit of fiddling with Photoshop.
With my glass off everything's perfect!
My cousin wants to put it in a frame, so it must have been OK.

Photograph Resources, Tips, Tutorials / Textured paper
« on: Wednesday 19 May 10 22:54 BST (UK)  »
I recently scanned a couple of 1970s photos on my Epson 4490 at 600dpi in jpeg, however, the photo is on some type of textured paper that feels pimple-like and results in faint black and white shadows/smudges  all over an enlargement, not very good for printing. I’ve tried layers on Photoshop with no luck, even reducing/increasing  the resolution and scanning again.
Any help, have you seen this before with textured paper prints that where popular in the 60s and 70s.
