The Lighter Side / Re: Has any one found any one famous - or infamous in your family
« on: Saturday 10 September 16 00:01 BST (UK)  »
30th G Grandad was a fella called Henry, they made him a King and changed his surname to II.
Oddly enough, hes also my wife's 29th Great Uncle.

HI Everyone.
Thanks for all the detective work.
Just to add, Joseph and family were in Teddington in April !931 as thats when my Dad was born. The Chadwell Heath address and his occupation are from his eldest son's death certificate in January 1930.
Sometime in the early 30's they moved to Wimbledon, then Croydon. But, as the photo is 1930, this doesn't make much difference.
Thanks again.
Barry

Hi folks,
I'm banging my head trying to find where this was taken, and I'd be very grateful if anyone can help.
It is anotated with "Central Laboratories November 1930"
My grandfather, Joseph Stewart Lawson,  is pictured and he was a chemist journeyman.
I know he lived in Chadwell Heath in early 1930 but by April 1931 was in Teddington, so I imagine this was fairly close to one of these places.
My googleing has come up with nothing so I'm hoping someone might have a clue.
Thanks

Huntingdonshire / Re: John Thompson b1800 died 1840

Found he was a carpenter, repairing the well top, but didn't die in the well, but later, of his injuries.
The well was at the residence of a Mr Wagstaff, Southoe.

Hi all,
A long time since I've been on here.
I've got a bit of an interest in this chap.
It's a bit of a long story so bear with me.
I live in a former pub in Southoe, the village where John Thompson died.
We have a friend who is a medium so a few weeks ago we had a gathering here.
I'm quite sceptical about these things but gave it a go.
Twice, separately, a well was mentioned.
Then at the weekend, some friends came for dinner,  not associated with the previous gathering, and the chap had the name Thompson pop into his head.
So I googled and found this thread.
My wife rang the council who listed only 3 wells, although I'm sure there were more, but one was at our house.
I spoke to our vicar who also is the vicar of the church where John is buried, and she had that day received back the old church records!
She told us he died while repairing the well top.
I've tried to find a newspaper report but the local library and the online archives don't have any newspaper archives for that time.
I'd love to find out more about him, and if it was my well....

Durham / Re: LAWSON in Durham
« on: Friday 18 October 13 21:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi Bar,
Sorry, I thought I was sending a private message last time, hit the wrong buttons.
I dont know much about grandad, I do have a photo of him in uniform outside St Thomas's.
I paid a professional genealogist to research him, but a lot of records were destroyed,  his amongst them.
I didn't know he was called Gerry! Seen him referred to as Stuart though.
My dad was just a boy when grandad died, so he cant recall much about him, and granny died just before I was born so I didn't get to meet her either.
I have a few photos of them, also some nice portraits of your parents too, that I'll happily send you once we can.
All the best
Barry

Hi Bar,
Well, that makes us cousins!
I've done a bit more research since I posted on here, so I can pass that on if you like.
I met your mum & dad once when I was 8, but I only vaguely remember it.
Did you stay in Croydon? I grew up in Thornton Heath, but now I'm in Cambridge.
Dad has mentioned you and S* and R*, and has some photos too.
Great to hear from you.
