For Sale / Wanted / Events / Why does this board have no reply buttons?
« on: Thursday 19 April 07 13:31 BST (UK)  »
I am sure that it used to but on my computer, there are no reply buttons on the For sale/wanted boards any more. Is this intentional? Or is it a quirk of my new Vista system?

Thanks
Kathryn

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Family history Skype cast
« on: Thursday 01 March 07 12:17 GMT (UK)  »
There will be a Skype cast genealogy and family history discussion on Saturday 3 March at 9pm UK time. Robert Dalgleish and the other genealogists will take part in the free UK Skypecast at https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/skypecast/detailed.html?id_talk=469808.

To join in you need a skype account (free), a skype phone or headset and a computer with a broadband connection.

This sounds intriguing - has anyone been involved in one of these before?
Best wishes
Kath

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Unbreakable genealogy magnifiers
« on: Thursday 01 March 07 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

New for March: unbreakable genealogy magnifiers.

Tsizes of flexible, unbreakable fresnel magnets - credit
card size (£1.49), bookmark size (£2.49) and full A4 page size
(£4.99).

These are great for magnifying census sheets, or parish register
copies (or originals) or any hard to read printed or hand written
records. Slip them into your bag or wallet. Much less cumbersome than glass magnifers.

I like the bookmark one best - fits easily into a file pocket and is
easy to angle and read a whole line at once.

England / UK Non-parish, maritime and foreign BMD certs to go online
« on: Saturday 24 February 07 20:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi List

Some news from the National Archives: they have signed a license with Genealogy Supplies Limited to scan the existing microform records of various birth, marriage and death certificates and place them online later in the year. The release suggests the project will be in its final stages by December 2007. Until then, it will not be possible to order the microform copies at Kew at all.

The online records will be fully indexed and searchable - free to view at Kew - but, presumably, available for a download fee generally, although the release from Kew does not spell that out.

The certificates are non-parochial (including Baptist, Methodist and Quaker records), births, marriages and deaths at sea and foreign BMDs of British Nationals.

Ever wanted to buy someone a family history fanatic that you know an unusual birthday present or card related to genealogy? Have you ever found one? No, neither did we, so we decided to start a small business supplying inexpensive gifts that are fun and attractive.

Have a look at our keyrings, coasters, mousemats, fridge or filing cabinet magnets, rulers, letter openers and coordinating greeting cards at www.familytreefolk.co.uk

Our designs are novel and colourful - some funny, some serious and you can buy matching designs in the cards, keyrings, coasters and magnets.

At the moment we have some Mother's day designs and have just launched our family range. Look up our Mother's day gift packs - card plus gifts at less than £5.

We will be attending fairs throughout the year but our products are available all year round on our site. Currently we offer PayPal but will shortly be introducing an ordering system for postal/cheque payments. Parish Chest also is in the process of building our store on their site for credit card payments.

Best wishes
