The Common Room / Re: Death Certificate of a Child
« on: Sunday 11 March 07 05:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

Thank you for the replies. The entry says ' daughter of...' in the occupation box.The father is not the informant, nor,in fact,is the mother who I know was alive then. The informant is not a family member at all,but was 'present at the death.'

It is possible that this person did not know that the child's father was deceased, therefore.

Thanks again

Sue.

The Common Room / Death Certificate of a Child
« on: Saturday 10 March 07 13:39 GMT (UK)  »
I have just received the death certificate of one of my young ancestors who died aged two years (whooping cough)

Her father's name is on the certificate and not her mother's,although to the best of my knowledge the father predeceased his daughter.

Would anyone know if it was common practice to name a deceased father on a child's death certificate rather than the mother who was still living?

Many thanks

Sue.

Hello Valda,

Thank you for the very helpful information.I was particularly interested in the 'causes for admission',some of which caused me to smile. The photos are very good.

Thank you again,

Susan.

Staffordshire / Surname Interests
« on: Friday 23 February 07 07:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

As I have only just joined I thought I would post my surname interests:

Cox - Brierley Hill
Wilkinson - Brierley Hill
Gamble - Brierley Hill
Green - Brierley Hill
Bowen - Brierley Hill
Glaze - Brierley Hill and Amblecote
Guttery -Brierley Hill
Webb - Brierley Hill
Hickman - Brierley Hill

I am very keen to trace Samuel Hickman b. abt 1881 and living in 1901 in Brierley Hill, occupation glass blower. He was my gt grandfather, but a mystery to me as he was not married to my gt grandmother and I have only just discovered his existence on my grandmother's marriage certificate.

Just want to say this is a great site.

Marisan.

Hello All,

I wonder if anyone has any information at all on the former Asylum at Shrewsbury,St Julian.I am trying to trace the death of my Gt Gt grandfather William COX who was born in Bilston, but lived Madeley/Broseley area with wife Emma SMITH. He was a cooper by trade. On the 1871 census he is certified 'lunatic' and I believe he may have died in the Asylum.Emma SMITH was a Broseley girl and her father was David.

Many thanks for any help.

Susan.
