Hello Christine

I have a Thomas Watkins b 1782 in Merthyr Tydfil.  However I don't have occupation for him.  Nor do I have his wife's name.  His son was also Thomas b 1802 who was a collier.  I don't have any information on any other children of Thomas senior.
Not sure if this is any help, but would be interested if there is a link.

Hi

Can anyone make out the occupation on the following census.  I'm sure it's not very interesting this side of the family haven't had any exciting occupations yet.

James Vowles b 1800ish
1851   Somerset, Barrrow Gurney.
H.O. 107/1946

Thanks
Tracey

Hi

Can anyone help with a bit of deciphering for me on the 1851 census.

For George Curtis b 1804 in Cold Aston living in Gt Barrington, Gloucestershire.  His occupation is Stone Mason but there is more in brackets but I can't read it.

Class: HO107; Piece: 1970; Folio: 30; Page: 10; GSU roll: 87370.

Thanks Tracey

The Lighter Side / Re: My sister doesn`t want me to do the family history.

Definately carry on with your research.  My Dad didn't want me to research our family tree, I knew he didn't have a happy childhood and I think he didn't want me to find out a few porkies he had told.  However by researching I found the address he was born in, in Wales, and about a month before he died after a long illness and he longed to visit his youthful home he wasn't able to travel nor was he able to remember the address.

I had it and was able to bring it up on google maps and show him.  To see his face, you'd have thought I'd transported him there.

The lies I have found out make not a jot of difference to my memories of him and my feelings, but helped me cope with a difficult time and helped me really understand the circle of life and how we can keep these people alive.  If we don't tell their stories then they truly die.  Research keeps them alive.

Your sister may one day be happy about your research, or maybe her children will want a sense of where they came from when the get older.

Enjoy your hobby for you and others that will come after you.

This is an excellent site.  Whilst reading one article to see if it was a relative ( sadly not ) I found this article.

From the Bristol Mercury Monday 17 1826

E.M Page, 15, Wine Street, Bristol, reminds the Public that they never can have the opportunity of gaining a Capital Prize in the Lottery after TOMORROW, as on that day Six Pirzes of £30,000 will be drawn and then Lotteries end for Ever.

Little did they know the Lottery would go National one day.

Technical Help / Re: Ancestry

Hi

I am, but I have disabled the Norton Confidental add on a while back and I've had no problems since, until this evening.
I was using it fine then went to look at a BMD page and it stopped.

I'll send them an email.
Thanks for the thought
Thracey
