I can't find any Langs or even Long (which might be pronounced Lang in Broughshane) in the area at all.  What was his father's occupation (given on the marriage cert.) RosemaryJoan

I've just found out James Lang was a Cordwainer,  shoemaker.
Also I didn't realise that David lang could well have not been born in Broughshane . It's just the town that was on his service records when he signed up. But on the census records it says he was born in Ireland.

Hazzy,  If you can, scan it and send it to us and we'll all have a go at deciphering it.
Rosemary

Thanks for you reply.

I have the marriege certificate for David Lang, which stated he was in the Royal marines. His fathers name was James Lang and they came from Ireland.
I got the rest of the info from his marines records, that he was born in Broughshane, and joined up in 1847 to 1866. He served his time in Portsea Island in Hampshire. This is were he met his wife.

So other than the place of birth and his Fathers name I don't have anything else to go on.
