Down / Rathfriland look ups?
« on: Tuesday 21 February 12 11:48 GMT (UK)  »
I have no idea if anyone can help me here?

1) I am trying to find the marriage record of Michael Hillan and Margaret McConvill/e in Rathfriland 1851 (think 10 May 1851) Roman Catholic.  I am trying to find the name of Michael's father.

Michael died in 1868 and I have ordered his death certificate.

Margaret Hillan (nee McConville) then married Thomas Jordan in 1869 ish (also rathfriland) and they had a daughter called Sarah Jordan (abt 1871).  I do not know the age of Thomas.

2) Margaret (widowed) and Sarah show up in the England 1881 census.  I am trying to locate the death of Thomas Jordan between 1871 - 1881.   I am starting in Ireland as I am wondering if this triggred the family to move to England.

Let me know if anyone can help - or if they need more info as I may have it!

Nicola

HI Pete

The family moved to Dublin - this is where he married and lived.

Thanks for the 1881 William Thomas information.....as this may be the connection.   My ancestor was also callled William Thomas Trainor....and was born 1880 (I think that they may have been cousins)...I will keep searching and hopefuly find the way to the link

Thanks so much everyone...I love this website!  If anyone wants any England Wales, Scotland census or BMD let me know as I have access to most of them!

Shane

I did see this yes and ordered the certificate.  I am also trying to locate his marriage so that I can then match up to see if it is the same person.  I am also taking a guess on the marriage record at this stage.   I have also contacted Tullow and Carlow libraries so I am progressing.

Thanks, Nicola

Thanks to you both.

I found these links and info - and also old newspaper articles about what happened at the time - it is such an amazing (and sad) story) - the papers talk about his family but ay his mother 'Mrs Traynor' which is not very helpful!!

He was execcuted by hanging on 25 April 1921....and buried in the groundsof mount joy prison.  He was (his body) eventually released in 2001 and was given a state funeral.

I am trying to find a link to my Trainor family (also from Ireland)....my dad remembers as a child being told that a relative was 'murdered' by hanging in Mountjoy prison.....when he told me this I started to search and found Thomas.

I am now on a mission to find the family connection!

Thanks, Nicola
