Armed Forces / Re: Another uniform to identify - Irish

One daughter Anne Kelly was born in 1928 and we think was one of the youger chidren so I'm guessing that John Joseph Kelly may have been born around 1900, I will investigate further. Thanks both for the uniform input!   ;D

Armed Forces / Another uniform to identify - Irish

Can anyone tell me anything about this uniform please?  He was John Joseph Kelly, lived & died as far as I know, in Rathangan, Kildare, Ireland. His wifes maiden name is given as Coughlan on one of their daughters birth registry but I'm unable to find the other children  Thomas, Anastacia, David, Kitty and Stephen.  Though maybe if I could find out more about Joseph it might lead me to his wifes name etc?

You know more??!!

I could PM you with that record if you are able to help me read it? It mentions The Vivid which I think was a training base/ship  It also has a marvelous description of John and 2 moles he has....one on his buttock! :-)

I have a photo of my Grandfather John Hurdley in uniform. His hat says HMS Curlew and I think it would have been taken between 1910 and 1920 but I'm having difficulty finding out anything about him. I know he married my Nan Victoria May Buck in 1919 in Southampton but have nothing else to go on. any help or advise on where to start appreciated

Hi All, sorry for my late reply, got side tracked trying to unearth more clues, then came the weekly shop and washing......agh!!

Anyway. Yes I was pressuming the postcard was from a man but yes it could be from a woman. I suppose I have to face the fact I may never know who it was sending Edith a postcard, haven't quite given up...not just yet. I'm sure the answer lies here amongst this pile of photos! :-)

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Who is the postcard from?

Yes, thats what I thought. We have no idea if Edith ever married though I did find a marriage of an Edith Peachey to a Cecil Ayling and wondered if it could have been signed Cess. The marriage was in September 1918 and by chance army records indicate he left the army about this time so it would have fitted in niceley......... but I think you're both right. C.E.G.G.

Edith was always known simply as Miss Peachey to friends and wondered if she secretly married/had a secret love. Strange he didnt just sign his name dont you think?

Wonder if it's possible to find out the name of the regiments serving here in July 1920 (Stamp date on card)

Hi,

I'm trying to discover who the sender of this postcard might be. It was sent to Miss Edith Nellie Peachey but I can't work out who signed it. There seems to be 3 dots/stops under the first 3 letters?

Who ever he was he was on active service, I'm trying to find any clue which might lead me to the sender of the postcard.
