Looking for anyone on list who has a connection to James Smyth Lisburn, County Antrim.
From the Belfast Newsletter 5 May 1818
On the 1st of May by the Rev.Mr. Higginson. Mr. James Smith of Lisburn to Miss Jane Oakman dau. of Mr. William Oakman of Pigeontown near Glenavy.
Lately at Pigeontown,Parish of Glenavy where he had gone for the restoration of his health Mr. James Smyth of Lisburn, aged 40 He was clerk in the Marquis of Hertford's office for upwards of 20 years. In this situation he conducted himself with such prooriety, integrity, and faithfulness as merited and obtained the unqualified approbation f those whom he connected. His mild unobtrusive manners and kind obligiing dispositions procured him the estimation and respect of all who came within the circle of his acquaintance . A widow with a very numerous and promising progeny, remain behind to deplore the irreparable loss they have sustained by the premature death of a affectionate husband and tender parent.
I do not know how many children were born to James and Jane or what happened to the children. I do know Jane remarried to a William English and they immigrated to Canada along with 2 children George and Isabella.
If there should be anyone on list who has a connection to James Smyth or might know how to find the names of the children I would appreciate hearing from you. Odd that the children did not come to Canada with their mother for whatever reason. Wonder how many she had maybe 5 or more.
Another bit of info on James Smyth/Smith he was baptized Catholic in 1-9-1789 parents William Smyth and Anne at Dublin,Bray.
I appreciate any help.
