Thanks for the interesting information. My great great grandfather Richard Philip Hotchkiss went to work as a miner in Diamondville, Wyoming. Most of my Hotchkiss line ended up working in Wyoming, but they also lived in Ohio.

Richard Philip and Mary Hotchkiss parents were William Hotchkiss and Mary Philip.

My Hotchkiss branch originate from around Carronshore in Stirlingshire and were
also involved in mining in that area.

Wondering how far back the surname goes in the area. My own branch
is descended from the marriage of James Gillon and Margaret Borthwick
in Linlithgow in March 1712.

I've also seen earlier Christenings of.
