Dear Abiam
Just noticed photos you have put on site. I was on the photo of 1945. My head is just poking up at the back. Apparently we were at the front with one of my cousins until I kicked up a fuss and had to be taken by my mother to the back Nothings changed I still don't like my photo being taken very much!
I'll have to get that book.
Thanks Ermyntrude

Thank you so much Abiam for the photo of your aunt . My mother always said the little girl she knew who died at Garden Cottageslooked like 'an angel to her'
She was taken to see the little girl after death and so being a child herself it must have had a profound effect on her.
My mother's brother {Smith} and his family stayed in the Maidenhead and Bucks areas.
Best wishes Ermyntrude

Hi  Abiam
After reading your piece  I wish I could check with my mother{she died four years ago.} She was born in 1911 but I think moved to Garden Cottages when she was six or seven and her mother had remarried. She often talked about a little girl dying and being taken to see her . I wonder if this could have been your aunt.
I think your family may have followed each other around because I think my mother lived at Norfolk Park before moving to Garden Cottages!

Hi Lesanne
I had a cousin called Ron Smith who went to live in Princess Risborough and although he spent a lot of time visiting our family in Garden Cottages he didn't live there as far as I know. His sister lived there but her married name was Daphne Gwilym nee Smith. I think a lot of families moved to the council estate {Larchfield}.
Thanks Ermyntrude

Thank you Abiam for your suggestions on finding more about my ancesters in Tyrrells Buildings. Were your family who lived in garden Cottages called Wise. One of my cousins lived in our cottage after we left remembers a family called Wise. She thought they lived near the Palethorpes. We lived at number 86. We moved to Doncaster when I was 6 so I have only few memories of my time there but some are clear. I remember going to the shop at the end of the road with tea coupons and the lady making a cone shaped bag to put some sweets in it . My cousin said it would be Mrs Bond and her shop was in the front room. I remember lots of little frogs in the gardens at the back probably from the dyke. I can remember water coming into the house when it flooded. Some of the families I remember were the Sellars the Hopkins, Heedens,Palethorpes and the Wests.I used to go to Sunday School at the Gospel Hall at the end of the road. On the way to Ellington Park school I seem to remember passing some big houses in a lane and talking to a girl there who was about my age. I think her name was Amanda. I envied her her bunk beds! I know her brother went to boarding school. It was a different world from the one I knew. She came to a birthday party I had but I can't remember going past her front gate!!!  I never got bunk beds but my children did.

I am new to this site and have read with interest all the information on Tyrrells Buildings and Garden Cottages. I lived in Garden Cottages until 1948 and went to Ellington Park School. My grandmother was born in Tyrells Buildings. Her name was Rose Montague . Her mother remarried after being widowed. She married William Gascoigne. Has anyone any connection with these families please? My mother also lived in Garden Cottages from about 1918 to 1948. Her name was Edith Smith. Her mother remarried after being widowed. She married William Mulford but my mother never took his name.
