Noticed he went under George Bloomfield on the death record. Have had a quick look under George on immigration lists but sadly nothing so far.  :-\

George Bloomfield - 22 May 1879  Wales  - 8 July 1948 Toronto York Ontario (aged 69 years)

Father - George Bloomfield - Mother  Annie Bloomfield - Spouse Mabel Thomas.

Thanks. The DoB is the one I had in my notes but he gives a different one in his Canadian Army service record (22nd August 1880). At least the date is consistent...... :) :) Its a long document and both dates are used at different times.

Per his CEF record, as at 2 August 1916 there was a child Richard Thomas Bloomfield aged 4, as well as George Page Bloomfield aged 12 months.

Added: at the time of his discharge in 1918, George Page Bloomfield was his only living child.

The birth of the first son, Richard Thomas would be two years before his marriage to Mabel in 1914?

Canada / Emigration form UK - William George Bloomfield
« on: Monday 26 February 24 10:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a William George Bloomfield (born 1880, Newport, Wales) who marries in 1914 in Ontario, Canada to a Mabel P Thomas (born 1889, Aberystwyth, Wales).

I would like to establish if they went out together or met in Canada etc but cannot find any records of their emigration to Canada. William left the Royal Navy sometime after 1906 so cannot have emigrated before that date which gives a window of approximately 1906 to 1914.

I can see that they are still in Canada in 1931 with a growing family of five children.

Thanks,
Paul

A lot of young unmarried women at that time went out to India in search of a husband, there was a great demand for young British women. There is  a an interesting book by Anne De Courcey, The Fishing Fleet, Husband Hunting in the Raj.

It was said that those women who failed to find a husband out there, when they came home they were referred to as “Returned Empties.”

Thanks,
An interesting way to find a husband. I guess that they would have had some contacts in India as its hard to imagine going out there wsithout there being at least one relative or friend already there. Her future husband was from London and I dont have any evidence that they knew each other before India.

1921 Census confirms Agnes Lane living with father Joshua and brother Frank. So thats her family traced.
I imagined that an English woman who married in India at that time would have come from a well to do family.
Ironically, the 1921 Census states that they were living on Walmersley Road, Bury which is where I lived about 30 years ago........... :) :)
I wonder what she was doing in India? She was still in the UK in 1891 and future husband George didn't arrive in India until the mid 1890's.

Agnes born Dukinfield Cheshire.  When on census with father living Bury Lancashire.

ShaunJ has posted that father Joshua wasn't shown as deceased on the marriage.

The father of this Agnes wasn't deceased.

Any other info that might help?  Is there an occupation given for her father?  This one was a civil engineer employer.

Thanks and you and SJ are correct - not deceased at time of marriage in 1903. I have no details of occupation

I cannot find any matches for Agnes (with father Joshua) in the UK records

What about this one 1881

Joshua Cartwright 45
Elizabeth 46
Frank 11
Phillip 6
Agnes 4
Selina Hill 57 sister in law
Mary Roberts 19 servant

With father again in 1901

In 1891 she is a pupil

This looks promising. She states father deceased on marriage certificate in 1903 so if we can find THIS Joshuas death sometime between 1901 and 1903 then it looks good.
What area are we talking about for this family of Cartwrights?
