Many thanks again for all your speedy replies. I am beginning to piece it together.

Garstonite, where did you find the marriage of James Howarth to Sarah Hoyle?

Thanks for your quick replies. I am afraid there is nothing new here.
I have John's death cert and he was 33, so born in 1823.
I have his marriage cert to Elizabeth Walker in 1852 too.
There is a John Walsh Howarth baptised in Radcliffe in 1840. If this was him, he would have been 17. Parents are Thomas Howarth and Ann Walch.
No sign of him in 1841 and 1851 census.
No sign of his probate either, so I'm not sure where the money came from.
The Walkers were farmers, but not particularly wealthy.
Any cotton mills of Radcliffe experts out there?

Hello,

I am looking for information on James Walch Howarth and his father John Walch Howarth.
John died in 1856 and was married to Elizabeth Walker in 1852. His occupation was "cotton manufacturer". James died in 1886, divorced, alcoholic and extremely wealthy.
Does this rimg any bells with anyone? Surnames of Walch, Mather, Walker and Howarth from Radcliffe are ll possibles.
John was 33 when he died of TB.

Help please.

Thank you Bonnie for a quick reply.

Thomas's birth is in the Cleobury register for 1778. I'm not sure whether Samuel was from Cleobury or not, but his birth would be about 1750. There are several on IG in Shropshire.

Thanks anyway

Probably not relevant at all, but I was in Tedstone (Herefordshire) churchyard only this morning and the name Griffiths is all over the gravestones.

Jilly,

Sorry I can't help you with your Gilmorton Pitt, but I would like your help if poss. My Pitts were a huge family in Upton throughout the 1800s. My Thomas Pitt was born in Upton 1806.  Thomas's father was also a Thomas who married Ann, a Herefordshire girl.
So when your Pitt pitched up in Upton, there were numerous Pitts there already.

Can you spot any link?

Many thanks

Neil

Hello, I'm not sure if you are local, but Ledbury to Upton is only a few miles over the Worcs- Herefordshire border. It is quite possible for your Pitt to have moved between the two.

I am from the family of Upton Pitts, but I have no Susannah in my tree yet. How does he fit in? Do you know who her parents were?
