Could I suggest you make contact with the Isle Heritage Group which has been working on the Isle's history for many years? Their facebook is,

or write to Hugh Jaques 37 Tonderghie Road. Isle of Whithorn    Tel  01988 500686

I am sure they will be happy to help as they have considerable resources.

Hello Laura,

As you have now found 'Menston' as most people knew it, was High Royds, one of the three ? mental hospitals for West Yorks.

You may be interested in the site which provides much background information. The hospital and grounds have now been redeveloped for housing.

This may help

You may know that the barracks were not actually in Bradford, but in Pudsey at the corner of Woodhall Lane and Leeds Road.

Pudsey Library USED to have a good reference section when it was under the West Riding. Maybe there are some archives which have found their way to Wakefield (the old headquarters of the West Riding Library Service ?)

Not sure if this is of any interest....A major study of Hardaker in W Yorkshire

http://hardakerfamily.id.au/

It would appear that Hardaker s had a strong presence in West Yorkshire, namely Rawdon, Guiseley, Yeadon etc.

Maybe of interest.......

Erica Johnson is the Genealogy contact for the library service (Dumfries and Galloway), who can explain what is available etc. re cemeteries and graves, and where it is to be found.
