Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Barham baptism 1804 lookup request
« on: Tuesday 08 January 19 13:01 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks for the offer. I am playing on Family Search now and have filled in some dates  and places which all seem to fit together. I would certainly like to know what you discover about William in Edinburgh. Going through the family William wasn't the only child who had a short gestation period, and quite a few were born well before the parents' wedding.
My Ancetry Tree is" A Walker and Gilbert Tree" but I have noticed  there is another  which has the Scottish Canadian family in it which may throw some light on the clan.

The Tree you allude to on Ancestry is indeed mine. I am satisfied with my side back to William Morris born abt 1781 in Waterford, John Livingston and Abigail Doughurty as they are well documented in Newfoundland , and their descendants documented in Quebec. On the Canadian/Scottish Austin side, I am comfortable with Dr William Austin who married Sidney S Morris. They too are well documented in Ceylon and Quebec. However from there back ie Robert and Ms Copland is speculative to date as these people have been "lifted" off Ancestry, mainly through Ancestry's"potential parent". I am not subscribed to either Ancestry or Scotlands People so verifying these will probably have to wait until I have more time in the Australian winter.  However there do not seem to be any connections to James in Kent.
The reoccurrence of names in this family is a challenge; I have 3 generations of William Morris, and the son of the third William and Mary Ann Austin [ Robert William Trevor Morris] had nieces on his wife's side whose father was yet another William Morris !

It is a while since the last post on this topic, but I have not been able to trace back either James Austin or Sophia Hill. Has anyone done any better please ? I am particularly interested to see whether James is related to the Dr William Austin who married Sidney Sophia Morris in Ceylon in 1829. That Dr William appears to have Scottish origins, and later settled in Quebec. SSM is/was teh sister of William Morris who married Mary Ann Austin , daughter of James and Sophia in Colombo 9 July 1834

Carlow / Re: Moore Family

Thank you for the rapid reply. I do have this record of the Moore Potterton marriage.  What I am looking for is something that shows that Howard Moore, JP of Carlow  [ possibly of   Dunleckney ] had a wife Jane.

I too am trying to trace a  Moore family in Carlow. I am looking for a Howard Moore JP to see if he was the Howard in my tree who married a Miss Jane Potterton in Dublin in 1801. There are many references to the man, but none so far that mention his wife or family.
Should anyone have come across Howard, b 1772 in Dublin I would be very grateful of the assistance
Thank you

Kent / Re: Charles Oldaker Hardres Court, Upper Hardres, Kent -Marriage

Thank you for your prompt replies. Yes I did know of the birth of their son in Inverness . The reason given by a descendant on a Tasmanian site  for this was that the family went on a fishing trip to Scotland & were delayed there by inclement weather . I cant verify this. However Charles did live in Kent prior to the birth of his son Francis, and up to his departure for Tasmania in October 1850. Daughter Emma from the same marriage appears to have been born 1845-6 and accompanied Charles and Emma to Tasmania. I could not find their marriage in Scotland's people either. That site had the surname for Francis birth as Oldacre. There does not seem to be any record of a belated marriage in Tasmania; indeed he may have skipped the country to live in a defacto relationship but there is no evidence for that either.

Kent / Charles Oldaker Hardres Court, Upper Hardres, Kent -Marriage
« on: Monday 01 August 16 11:33 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a record of Charles marriage to his second wife Emma circa 1843. There does not appear to be any record in the usual places UK BDM, Family Search records, Ancestry trees. Charles was a retired solicitor previously practicing in Pershore and London. He may have separated fromhis first wife Henrietta as there is some evidence she passed away in 1859.
Charles , Emma and family emigrated to Tasmania 1850.
Thank you
