Hi
Mary Anne was born Mary Anne Yende (or Yendo) Russell on 18 Aug 1835 at the "Child Factory" in Parramatta NSW. This is before William & Sarah married.
Sarah Anne Duff Russell was a convict from Glasgow who arrived in Sydney June 1834 on vessel "Numa". I have viewed Mary Anne's actual christening record. "Yende" is visible but I think it was meant to be Fender, which is Sarah's mother's maiden name.

Lanarkshire / John Russell - Glasgow died 1830s??
« on: Sunday 21 October 12 05:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi  I am looking for any BDM records for John Russell from Glasgow.
The information I have is that John's wife was Marion Fender born 1785.
John & Marion had 3 daughters, Sarah Ann born 1814 in Gorbals, Glasgow, Isabella born 1818 in Gorbals & Marion born 1824 in Glasgow.
In 1833 & 1835, John is a shoemaker, residing at 12 Frederick Lane Glasgow.
I can't find any records after 1835. He isn't listed with his wife in 1841 census (still living at 12 Frederick Lane) so I am presuming he died between 1835 and 1841. Marion is a widow in 1851 census. Any help is really appreciated.

Tipperary / Martin HOGAN born 1762 Tipperary & sons Malachi, William & John
« on: Saturday 12 May 12 02:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I am looking for more information from Ireland about Martin HOGAN born 1762 Tipperary & his sons Malachi b 1810, William b 1814 & John b 1816. All were convicted of manslaughter at the Tipperary Spring Assizes 8 March 1836, received life sentences and transported to Sydney Australia on vessel "Captain Cook (3)" in 1836. According to records in Australia, when Martin Hogan was transported in 1836, he was married (to Ann) and had one son & two daughters left behind in Ireland.  Can anyone help with the Assize records or maybe Irish newspaper searches to find out exactly what their crime was? Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks Nicola
:)NEW INFORMATION  I have found English/Irish newspaper reports about Tipperary Assizes 1855 where Stephen Hogan (alias Michael Darcy) & Winifred Cahill were found 20 years later in Manchester. They were charged with murder of Michael Bryan, a bailiff, in Sept 1835 in Borrisokane. Previously, for this crime, 4 people were found guilty of manslaughter in Spring Assizes 1836.  One newspaper mentions "brothers" so I think I might have the correct connection (even though there were many trials for murder in 1836 Spring Assizes.) :D  I think I have solved my puzzle.  Thanks

Thanks for your response.
The Old Bailey site has directed me to "Registers of convicts in the hulks" and "Registers of Prisoners in Newgate Prison, both at the National Archives. Maybe there is a copy of these at the Mitchell Library in Sydney? I'll check.

Hi
I am trying to find the birth details & parents, brothers or sisters of
William Collier.
From his death certificate he was born approx 1807 in London, died in Sydney 27 Jul 1866. His father's name was John Collier, occupation Builder.
William Collier was convicted 3 Dec 1829 at the "Old Bailey" for stealing 2 books, sentenced to 7 years transportation. He arrived in Sydney on "Exmouth" July 1831. His occupation was "Harnessmaker" but he was out of work when convicted.
He married Sarah Russell in Nov 1837 and had the following children, John James, Charles Alexander, Isabella, Thomas, George, William Henry.
I have been trying to find his address when he was convicted to try and confirm some family details with the 1841 census. Can anyone help with where I could look?
