Flintshire Lookup Requests / David Davis Pickhill or Shordley
« on: Wednesday 28 November 12 05:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Just wanted to find out if anyone can help me with place names in Wales. I am trying to marry up records I have found for David Davis. I have his Australian convict records that shows he was from Flint. The record from the Bodmin Jail records, (where he was held prior to transportation) shows he is from Shordley (at least I think that is what is says) and now I have found a baptism record showing that he is the son of Mary Davis of Pickhill. There is no father listed and a notation that looks like BAS. Can anyone tell me if this means he was born out of wedlock and where Shorley and Pickhill where.

Thanks

Unfortunately I ended up with food poisoning my last day in London so didn't get there, not to mention the long and unpleasant flight home. I will have to pay to get my research done at a later date.

Hi, hoping someone is able to help me with the RIC service number of Thomas Colahan Born 1836 enlisted 1856, Thomas is from Galway. Or am I able to access this info at the National Archives?

I am only in London for one more day (visiting from Australia) and I am planning on going to the National Archives tomorrow to look up his service records.

If you can help, thanks
Debra

Laois (Queens) / Thomas Colahan and Mary Delaney
« on: Wednesday 19 January 11 04:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Looking for information on Thomas Colahan and Mary Delaney's parents/siblings.

On Mary's death certificate is states that she was born in Mount Raff (Mountrath) around 1839 and married in the same place. It shows her parents as Daniel Delaney and Ellen O'Carrol. She was a catholic.
On Thomas's death certificate it states that they married in Rosseray (maybe Roscrae) and that he was born in Galway around 1841.  Thomas was in the RIC and married Mary prior to coming to Australia in 1865.

Thanks
Deb

Thanks for all that info Barb.

I have Mary's and Clara's death certificate and both say they were born in Armagh. I am planning a trip to Ireland next year so my research into this line might have to wait until then. I do know that Marmaduke was on the Griffith Valuation. He was listed as the occupier of rateable property in the village of Drumadd in the parish of Armagh. His property was no. 27 in the village of Drumadd and comprised a house, offices (i.e. outbuildings) and garden with a total rateable valuation of £2 15s. This property was leased from the Representatives of Dr Johnston.
On the National Archives website there is mention of Marmaduke in the War Office records:
Record Summary
Scope and content
MARMADUKE KEARNS
Born BLAIRS, Down
Served in 41st Foot Regiment; 89th Foot Regiment
Discharged aged 42
Covering dates   1811-1838
I have requested his records be copied but they sent me an email telling me that these records were not available because they were in the process of being digitised. So this search may have to wait awhile.

As far as the Bendell's go it's just George Frederick Field Bendell who is being very elusive as I cannot find a record of him coming to Australia. I have a copy of a couple of passenger lists but they are not my George. His death and marriage certificates state he was born in Bath, Somerset but I cannot find anything that matches.

I just did a quick google search on Chrysler Farm. Was this a battle in Canada in 1812? I will have to look into this further.

I have also received an email from a Gavin & Mandy Hagan researching the same line. Do you know them?

Hi Barb,

Good to hear from you.

I have only recently heard of the connection with Bernard Hagan through Clara's older sister.

I did know about Marmaduke and Mary, but thanks for posting.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had found that but was wondering how I could find if this Marmaduke had two daughters, Clara and Mary?
