There are several relationships this size of match could be. Dont forget half relations, half uncle or aunt. The shared matches comment is a good one. Build groups beginning with that match and share relationships. Then go to the next best match that is not in that group and do the same. Soon you will have relationship groups. Study the available trees from those groups and identify the most recent common ancestor. It takes work but it will pay off.

Many thanks

I have family in India and the Families in British India Society (FIBIS) helped me find their names and their history! They do it for free but do ask for a small donation. I'm not sure how they're working now with Covid-19, but they maybe able to help.  :)

Many thanks for the help appreciated will give them a try.

Hi,

Have you had a search around the museum?

https://museumfreemasonry.org.uk/

It looks very interesting and if you can't find the info you need I think it would be worth contacting them for help.

It could be a first cousin, a  great niece/nephew or a double relationship.

Painter is one of the best ways of seeing what the possibles are.

Relationship probabilities (based on stats from The DNA Geek)

    97%
    Great-Grandparent Great-Aunt / Uncle Half Aunt / Uncle 1C Half Niece / Nephew Great-Niece / Nephew Great-Grandchild
    3%
    Great-Great-Aunt / Uncle † Great-Great-Niece / Nephew † Half Great-Aunt / Uncle † Half Great-Niece / Nephew † Half 1C 1C1R

That is a high cM and gives a 97% probability of a 1C match or 3% at 1/2 1C or 1C1R.

Expanding sideways at Great Grandparent level and building each family member’s branch to as near to previous generation level will help quite a lot.

Meanwhile if you can ID the DNA match by name then you can build a probable tree for them.

I have a 364 cM DNA Match and built a tree for them (see my thread on this) but as yet I still have not found a link to my tree.

The bigger the tree your friend has the better chance of finding a link.

But as I have often said if the DNA match has a user name like SkyDiverInToABucket you have minimal chance of finding a pathway, but using Shared Matches may help.

Many thanks for the information, It is quite difficult to build a tree as the lady im trying to help really wanted to find her mother in India {possibly not living now} as she has no family members to ask and very little information.
She never knew her father and only vague memories of her mother.
thankyou for your time and help.
