Devon / Re: John William Beasley Bould or Boull

Yes, it is.  My own married name is Honeybun.  Even when I spell it to people they get it wrong.  Then there’s Columbine and lots of variations of that too.  In many cases the quality of the census writing is terrible too.

My grandfather was Edward William Bazley.  The family was very large and straddled the boundaries of Dorset, Somerset and Devon for 400 years, further complicated by county boundary changes and various spellings!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: CULLUMBINE -Collumbine -Columbine.

About 20 years ago I inherited my late father’s extensive research on the Cullumbine/Columbine family which started around 1700 in Nottingham, but gradually moved to Yorkshire.  Just as I was getting to grips with it all, my husband died suddenly, soon after I was disabled in a car accident, and lots of other things happened.  Now I’m 72 I’m keen to share my information.  Some wills tie a lot of loose ends together.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: LACEY family
« on: Sunday 05 January 14 04:52 GMT (UK)  »
As there is a Dorset connection, it might just be worth looking at the Lathey records in that County.  There are many links between the IOW and Dorset, landowners with property in both places, and by sea it's very close indeed.  Hope that helps.

Does anyone on this site have a copy of Comyns New Forest?  I know that the farm opposite me had a family called Rickman in it, around 1800.  I remember this from my mum in law's copy, which unfortunately I don't have.  The current resident of the farm is....Fred Rickman!  He moved there about 10-15 years ago but I know it's a long established Forest family.  Comyn's may have the answer.  If all else fails why not contact the New Forest Museum in Lyndhurst, who have a good reference library which includes a copy of Comyns.

Whilst I can't give you any concrete information, I can tell you that there is a lady with the same surname who is a New Forest Commoner.  I heard a talk from her recently, in Lymington, and she said that the surname came from some Huguenot refugees, and that everyone with the same surname in our area came from the same people.  I happended to remember it because I went to school with someone called Scivier.   Hope that helps.

Dorset Lookup Requests / Re: St Peters, Poole Parish registers - Beasley
« on: Monday 04 April 11 20:56 BST (UK)  »
My mother's maiden name was Bazley, another variation of Beasley.  She lived in Parkstone and worshipped at St. Peter's.  Mum's father was Edward William Bazley, and he came from Somerset, but the family came from Stockland on the Devon/Dorset border.  There is someone called Roy Bazley (or derivation of the surname) and he has done masses of research.  I can't access my records at the moment due to building work, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find Roy using Google I suspect.

By strange coincidence I have a near neighbour called Beasley, her family also came from either Dorset or Somerset.

Dorset Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1861/71 Census - HONEYBUN

I have often seen reference to the property in Loders, and wondered whether the property was named or detailed?  I go to West Dorset every 6 months or so, and would be happy to try and track the property down if it was a house?
