Hi
Thanks for the prompt reply,

Thomas and Sarah only had one child born in Scotland that I'm aware of although there could have been more as my mother was born in 1909 and the couple married in 1902, but I have not been able to find any children for them before 1909,the next child (that I'm aware of) was born in Gateshead in 1912.

If they did have children in Scotland before mother was born, I presume they did not survive as I have all of the children born to them and none are missing as far as we (My sisters and myself) know.

My sister remembers a little old lady visiting our grandmother who was Scottish and she always thought she was a relative on Grandmothers side, an spoke with a strong Scottish accent.

Thomas and his wife may have went to Scotland for work as he was a miner all of his working life, when mother was born the home address was Millers buildings, Kelty, Co Neath there were two pits near this address at the time they were Lassodie Mill Pit and Lindsay Pit.

I was also in touch with someone researching the same CHESTERS family's and she said she had made contact with someone on this website a few years ago, and she had sent her copies of  birth/death  certificates from the CHESTERS  living in Scotland. She was going to try to locate her again, but I thought I would try posting this in the meanwhile.

Maybe the RICHARDSONS has Scottish connections too, but it seems as if the CHESTERS line is my best bet at the moment.

Im  looking for CHESTERS family, my grandmother was Sarah CHESTERS born in 1885 DURHAM a daughter of Samuel CHESTERS and Jane Steel/Stell Samuel was born in Flintshire, Wales 1849

Sarah married Thomas RICHARDSON in 1902 in Gateshead England, daughter Sarah Jane RICHARDSON (my mother)was born in 1909 in Kelty,Fife Co Neath, Scotland.

There is definately a Scottish connection as I spent holidays in Fife as a young child but never knew what the relationship was, it was on my mothers side but didnt know if it was the Chesters or Richardson side.
I now have good reason to believe it was the Chesters side.
I cannot remember a great deal about the family we stayed with but I do know the mother of the family was called Jen and her husband was called Foxy (nickname I presume) and there were quite a few children.

I wish I had asked questions while my parents were alive :'(

Hope someone can help me with this :)

Thanks All

Robert G FERGSON had definitely not died in 1901 he was with the family again in 1911 census he died abt 1938.

I will take a look at the Irish census that are  to see if I can locate him in Ireland in 1901 when they become
available.

Thanks again

Derry (Londonderry) / Robert George FERGUSON born 1867

Hi All

I'm new to this forum and wondered if anyone can help, my ancestors came to England abt 1876 settled in Durham North East England.

In the 1901 census for Durham I can find Robert George FERGUSON'S (born 1867)  family, they are living in the Lanchester Union Workhouse, but there is no sign of Robert I have been trying to find him for a number of years without success he does not appear to be anywhere in England, he did have relatives in Derry, Moyboy /Ballybriest areas,  I thought maybe he had returned to Ireland looking for work,  can anyone tell me how I can set about finding the correct records (maybe 1901 Irish census?) to hopefully establish his whereabouts in 1901?

Thanks

Yes as you say Felling is in Gateshead,

He is living at his bride to be address on marriage cert which is also Heworth, Felling so no clue there. Thomas's father was deceased at the time of his marriage, the witness's were Sarah CHESTERS father and her sister.
I have the family in 1911 and children are Joseph aged 7 born in Felling, Thomas aged 4 born in Walker Northumberlandand, and my mother Sarah aged 1who was born in Kelty Scotland.

Thanks Jan

This could easily be the correct family, but as Thomas states he was born in Felling on the 1911 census I was going on that, the 1911 census is  the only reference to Thomas's birthplace I have, but I realize that this might not have been the whole truth, but it leaves me with no place to go after this.

It is so frustrating as with him being my grandfather I cannot move backwards, therefore cannot get my tree printed.

Am I doomed to be unable to get my mother side sorted? :'(

I have been looking for him since 2001 and if it was someone further back it would not be so bad i could still get my tree printed but as it is I'm stuck.

Can I just say i have been very impressed with the site, it covers lots of different areas in family history..great

I had thought of a professional genealogist but i know this can be expensive so wanted to try everything i could first.

Once again Jan thanks
