Durham / Re: Lead Mine deaths help
« on: Tuesday 30 June 15 08:29 BST (UK)  »
Sorry but I have no further info on Matthew's death but I came across an entry in the Newcastle Courant of 9 Dec 1854 for the marriage of his youngest daughter Ann.

The entry is listed under St Johns Newcastle:
At St Johns Church, on the 3rd inst., Mr Thomas Rogerson, millwright of this town, to Ann, youngest daughter of the late Mr Matthew Lee, of Mosswood.

There is a copy of the parish register entry on Ancestry. They were married 30th July 1904 in the parish of Merton county of Surrey.

The advertisement for the sale of the Belmont Estate is published in the Newcastle Courant on Jan 9 1819 and states that there are several farms adjoining the Estate held by Leases under the Dean and Chapter of Durham ( One of the farms is occupied by William Morrison).

You can view the whole advertisement for free if you are member of Newcastle City Library (no charge for joining).

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Edward Davison 1850-1914 Where was he born

Is it possible that Edward was born while his mother was still a single woman and that he was registered as Edward Scott?

Just a thought.

Durham / Re: Mary Howe ...prostitute???

Hi Margaret,
I hope Mary was well treated by her Gainford neighbours as in 1851 and 1861 she is listed right next door to my Davison ancestors. Small world!

I notice she only has Elizabeth & Margaret with her in 1841. Where is Ann & Robert?

Did daughter Elizabeth marry Thomas Hopkins and go to America?

I see that Mary Howe lived to a grand old age. Obviously well cared for by daughter, Margaret.

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Isaac Johnson South Hetton
« on: Friday 01 February 13 15:56 GMT (UK)  »
I'm of the opinion that there must be some relationship in 1891 as both families are recorded as if they are of one household.

It's possible that the elder Henry is Isaac Johnson's brother.

In 1891 I notice that Elizabeth is a widow living with her family in the same building as a Henry Johnson aged 70 born Stonegrave, Yorkshire. Henry has a son aged 38 who was born in South Hetton in 1853.

Looks like the elder 'Henry' may possibly be a relation of Isaac Johnson.

Durham / Re: John Robert Forster and family, Beamish
« on: Tuesday 11 December 12 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Thomas Forster, the father, is lodging with a Swinburne family at Beamish in 1891.

His future wife, Mary Ellen Thompson, is with her Heatherington grandparents a Beamish Forge in 1891.

It looks as if Mary Ellen died in 1902 and it may also be that Thomas died before 1911 as it looks as if the children are with various relatives in 1911. Apart from John Robert, who you already know about, I can see Alfred with a relative in 1911.

Let me know if you need the 1891 references and Mary Ellen's death.
