Heaven's forbid, even as a Crab I know the difference between the RE and the REME.

220969 T/Major F O C Hodges on his return to the UK on 20 Aug 1946 from Burma theatre gave his UK unit as 424 (QVOM) Ind Fd Coy R.IE.

In addition, on original embarkation in Burma on 31 Jan 1946, according to the promotions page of his Officer's Record of Service, he served with "CRE 4 Corps Tps Engrs," I always assumed that REME provided transport/vehicle engineers to the British Army.

Grateful for any enlightenment on the above please.

Good evening
I am currently researching my uncles record of service with 2Bn KRRC.
In his service records in the entries "Services at Home and Abroad" for the period 18 Mar 1919 to 4 Jun 1919 is "B.E.F." which I assume is British Expeditionary Force.  As there is no information on the KRRC Association website as to the location of the 2nd Bn for this period, can anyone give me the location of the B.E.F. for this period please?

Just received the GRO pdf for the Elizabeth WILSON who died 24 Dec 1845 in the Kendal Workhouse age 1 day - she was the daughter of a Jane WILSON :-[

Regrettably another  failure, the Elizabeth WILSON who died on Christmas Eve 1845 in the Kendal Union Workhouse was the daughter of a Jane Wilson.
Amnother brickwall :-[

Sadly the Elizabeth was not the Elizabeth we (rosie and I) expected.
This one was a School Mistress (hardly a Workhouse guest) and had the wrong father and finally listed place of death as Kendal Union not Kendal Union Workhouse.
From rosie's collection of GRO death records now will book for the pdf of the 0 age Elizabeth.

The names Elizabeth WILSON are linked to a ongoing investigation of Richard W WARD in the main Forum (Westmorland).
Richard was born to an Elizabeth WILSON on 6 May 1843 in the Kendal Union Workhouse.  Enquiries with the Cumbria Archive Centre reveal that the only Workhouse records held by them is their Death Register.
The Archive Centre found that an Elizabeth WILSON, of Mansergh parish, died on 24 Dec 1845 (ref WCW/30), age 1 day in the Kendal Union Workhouse.  Moreover, the record showed that this Elizabeth, (lets say junior), was buried at the Parish Church, Kendal.
In the absence of a Workhouse death record for an Elizbeth WILSON, (lets say senior) or indeed any other Kendal Workhouse records held by the Archive Centre, I would be grateful to discover the burial record details of a 1 day Elizabeth WILSON in the parish church records, if they exist, to see if there is a link to the two Elizabeths mentioned in the Workhouse ???

I know it's way back now but can you (fretep) please give me your source of the information contained in your 19 Jul 2017 post please.  The only 19 year Elizabeth WILSON who died (of Consumption) on 25 Dec 1845, was a School Mistress, she being the daughter of a Thomas Wilson (GRO: Dec 1845 Kendal Vol 25 Pg 324) Milnthorpe, Kendal Union, which rosie also recently highlighted for me.  Hence I would be grateful for the source of your input.
