The Lighter Side / Re: BBC TV "WDYTYA?" Series 10 Episode 7 William Roache
« on: Wednesday 26 September 12 22:23 BST (UK)  »
It does annoy me on WDYTYA that because children are with grandparents etc on census day they start talking about how they must have been brought up by them. Why doesn't anyone point out they might only have been there on that day.

Me too! In 1911 she was living with her parents in Blackpool.

But the other daughter 'May' is still with her grandmother, Alice, and still described as 'dau' not grand dau.

I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one annoyed by the leaps made and bits ignored.  There feels like in this program there should have been another hour of material

There is a Geo Isaac Pary chr. 13 May 1810  at St Mathews, Douglas, Isle of Man to John Pary and Margt Clarke. (IGI C038041)

Whilst this doesn't have the right middle names and is from IGI, it could be worth trying to follow up.

Another thought is that the Rice part of the name could be a corruption of Rhys.

But how annoying would it be for future descendants if she was away visiting on census night...

What do the children's birth certificates say for their fathers name?  Is it given as John Wilkinson consistently or does Charles Mitcham appear on the certificates at all?

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: Thomas Cook

Whilst there are a variety of other children of Robert and Elizabeth Cook christened in the years after 1815 in Welton le Marsh, I can't see a Thomas Cook ch. in 1815 that would fit.  The first child of Robert and Elizabeth that shows is christened in 1816.
IGI only have 2 Thomas Cooks being christened in 1815 in Lincolnshire and those are to a William and Elizabeth and the other to just an Elizabeth Cook.

Could it be a misspelling of Ian - pronounced in a certain way it could be similar.

I suspect if you follow churches done by the same architect you will find quite a few similarities.

Have you looked at the website http://www.churchplansonline.org/, which has loads of, well exactly what the title of site says, church plans! ;D

Having a quick check on there for the architect you mention above, there is quite a large listing of his works and although I have only looked down the first page the Church of st Lukes at Chesterton Cambridge also has the curved apse feature.

There is also the various acts passed in the 18th century as the population grew to build new churces and many of these were done to a fairly standard plan and by the same architects and just built in different places.

You will probably find it more in the 18th and 19th century churches as there was a greater degree of communication and architects worked more on nation wide commisions plus there has been less time over the intervening centuries for changes to the structure.

Sorry for the essay but it is a favourite subject of mine as I am a buildings conservator.

Don't the Royal College of Heralds have all those charts of family history tracing the royal families descent from God, Jesus etc.?  Congratulations on getting back to the year dot in one fell swoop!
