Your last message was very interesting.  Certainly food for thought in the knowledge that so many names are misread and mis-spelt in documents of all kinds.

Hi Pauline and heywood,
I found the mention of birth at sea on a thread by Carol, TreeTops at (*)  I did send a message to her but have no response as yet.  "archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/TREETOPS.../ 1018594149"
Talking to you two helpful people has already shown me what should have been blindingly obvious before, that I really do need to get hold of the MC for William Grimes and Annie Eroty.   I have hesitated to do this until now for various reasons, one of which was uncertainty as to whether I was on the right path, but of course getting the MC would clear up some of that uncertainty.   I hope I haven,t wasted too much of your time and I am grateful for the advice/help given.    I suspect William will still be shown as a Hawker.

Hi heywood and pauline,  Thanks for your ideas/comments so far.  I was a bit taken aback by the finding of a birth at sea, as I have got Annie listed as born London 1858 in both the 1881 and 1891 Census.   I also have her marriage in Oct 1876 to William James Grimes, from the Free BMD site.   I can find no reference to either her father of mother though, and that is obviously of great interest to me.   Can I have your thoughts please?    I am not that knowledgeable on Family History matters but it seems to me that the spelling, of surname in particular, is one of the biggest problems here.   As a matter of interest, do you know of any site which might keep records of Musicians of the era?   I thought maybe they had been en route to or from a concert somewhere.

I have recently come across a reference , after a google search, to Annie/Hannah Erotti/Eroty being born at Sea during a journey in the Mid-1850s. from Italy to Philapelphia to England.  Mention is made of her Father, Joseph Erotti/Eroty, a Musician, but no mention of her Mother (who should have been present!).   As Annie was my g/grandmother, I would be grateful for any information at all , or any suggestions as to where to search further.   Many thanks,   Allan T

Hi,   thanks for your message.   Alfred Thomas Turnbull was my grandfather and Cornelius , who married Susannah Francis was my 5xGG.   I think the sister of Susannah that John Groves married was Sarah?   Anyway, thanks again and it's nice to make your acquaintance very distant cousin!!!

Devon / Henry HILL of Plymouth

I am researching the Hill family and I believe that Henry, b.1851 Plymouth, was a Merchant Seaman who was buried at Sea.   Where would be the best source of information in that respect?   Any help would be gratefully received.

Hello again and thanks a heap.   You have been busy!!!   It will take me a little while to wade through all this but at the moment the very first one looks the likeliest.  I will keep you informed as you have been so kind.  Bye for now,  Allan
