The Common Room / Re: G Grandfather Vincent Fahy

Spidermonkey.

I have all (I think)the papers relating to Charles WW1 service inc the medical and discharge doc's. I would think unmarried refers to Julia and her name Jefford must mean that Vincent was already dead, being devout Catholics divorce was a no no.
As a small boy I remember being taken to see her in Drummond st, so Micheál giving her address as Southampton Rd makes it more confusing.
Charles hated the man Jefford, when his mother died he had her buried as Fahey.

Thank you all, I'm really grateful for all this information though much of it turns things I had been told upside down.

I was always told that the entire family lived on Long Island and I know my dad lived with them because he told me how much he disliked his cousins.

A lot of money was made by the brothers during prohibition when they were all working in hotels and they started a successful business selling diary produce. I have seen photo's of them all in the 40's with their lorries not Charles though he returned to the UK with his family in the 30's.

There must have been a very big row because my grandad always referred to his brothers as blackguards though my gran always had a light in her eye when she talked of Christie.

Charles went to the States with his older brother when he was very young his brother Joseph died there and he  returned to the UK in 1915 joined the British army and was invalided out in 1916. He joined up again in 1939 and was wounded at Dunkirk.

Looked for them on the Irish 1911 census nothing found. My grandfather was Charles he had several brothers and sister's and all bar one went to the states in the twenties with their families. My grandfather returned to the UK with his family inc my father in 1933.
My g grandmother Julia married an Englishman named Jefford after Vincent's death and lived in the Somers town district of Camden London until her death.
I'm afraid bitter family divisions means I have only sketchy details.

Sorry the 1901 census shows him in Cirencester Glos living with wife Julia and three son's, also his name is shown as Fahey. As for the 1911 census I have not found a single member of my family on that English or Irish.

Apologies.

I can't find any record of his death in England or Ireland, I have birth cert marriage cert and he is shown on the 1901 census in Cheshire. I'm sure he died prior to 1915. Advice would appreciated.
