Lanarkshire / Re: Hamilton Old Parish churchyard

Dear Sancti,  sorry i got mixed up in the thread - i am not used to this website and want to get back to the lists of names you gave for Hamilton Old Parish Churchyard.
I wondered about the Buchanan and Gabbie names.  I have my ggg grandparents William Buchanan married to Martha Gebbie. Martha had brother John and sister Isabella neither of whom were married.  I had hoped i may find something.  I am also looking for David Wilson and wife Marion nee Lang and her parents Mungo Lang and wife Janet.  A big ask.  Thanks, Heather.

saw your names Naismith and Weir. My ggg grandfather William Smellie Frame married an Agnes or Ann Weir in Nov. 1850 in Hamilton.  She must have been very well loved by her step children as they gave her name to their children. She died in Glasgow Feb 1895. She was the daughter of Basil Weir.  I think there are photos of gravestones with the name Weir from Bent Cemetery on the Lanarkshire families & histories website. It is a good site where we can upload photos and attachements of records. You may like to take a look at the large collection of photos.

Hi Sancti that would be good. Did you mean for me to write my email address on this forum or is there some other way to notify you of my email address. Not sure what you meant by pm.

Thankyou then maybe i will have nobody in Bothwell but have asked  yesterday on another posting which you had for Hamilton churchyard if you could look at Gabbie (Gebbie).  My ancestors Martha Gebbie and William Buchanan were married 1814 in Hamilton. Martha died pre 1855. William 1862. I have the Frame/Smellie, Wilson/Lang, Wilson/Frame, Some other Gebbie siblings John and Isabella, Wilson/Stirling and possibly Lang/Stirling although Lodger seems to think it could be Lang/Liddel.  I do have the photo of my Smellie Frame and family, also Douglas/Buchanan. My ancestors William Smellie Frame (Smellie Frame) and Janet King were married 1834 but Janet died pre 1851c. If you come across any of these, would love to see them. Heather.

Hello Sancti, Hi from flood and cyclone ravaged Queensland. I just looked at the first list  of names you printed and wondered if you could find the Lang/Wilson picture.  It sounds like my ancestors, Marion Lang and David Wilson. I have not been able to find the death of David but Marion died Jan 1860 and David sometime 1851 - 1861c. Other names are interesting but not the right combinations for me. I would be interested in the other Lang names in case Mungo appears.   Which cemetery were you speaking about in this posting.  On the Frame Family worldwide website which comes under the umbrella of ancestry.com where we can post pictures and attachments there are a lot of pictures from Bent Cemetery posted by one of the Frame members.Thankyou,

Thankyou once again Lodger.  You found this great info for me once before. The Death record of my ancestor Marion Wilson stated that her father was Mungo Lang and her mother Janet Stirling.  As neither the Stirling or Liddle names have been handed down,  i am still hoping to see some proof somewhere so thought there may be a gravestone somewhere.. Marion died Jan 1860 aged 78 and was married to David Wilson.  I was hoping there may be a record of them somewhere.  They had a large family of boys and the only girl was named Christian which didn't help either. Thanks again.

My Hamilton Lanarkshire families consist of Smellie/Frame, Frame/King, Buchanan/Gebbie, Buchanan/Wilson, Lang/Wilson. Buchanan/Douglas. I am particularly interested in the William Buchanan/Martha Gebbie who married in 1814 and my Mungo Lang/Janet (possibly Stirling).  I am in Australia so would appreciate any information.  I do have photos of my Smellie Frame and family grave in the old parish churchyard. The Mungo Lang would be the oldest connection.  Anything on Janet Smellie/John or William Frame who married in 1797 in Hamilton.    Thanks for your great study on this subject.  I subscibe to the frame family worldwide website and the Lanarkshire families and history so there are many interested folk searching for this information. Good luck.

Thanks again Lodger.

I was aware of some births   in Hamilton to the Mungo Lang and Janet Liddle but not of a daughter named  Marion.
These were  Agnes 1766, Martha 1769, Martha (2) 1771,  James 1773, Martha (3)1774, Isobel 1775. These from parish records.

My gggg grandmother Marion Lang was also born 1780 or 1781.  She died on 15.1.1860 and was 78 yrs when she died according to her DC.  Her son David Wilson signed the cert. as informant and named her parents as Mungo Lang and Janet Lang (maiden name Stirling).  Wonder whether this was an error as his paternal grandmother was also janet or Jean Stirling.  This Mungo Lang/ Janet Riddel is the only record I have found

Thankyou again for being so kind to do the look ups.  They have opened up more avenues.  Heather.

Thankyou so much for that information.
On 1851 census in Holme St. Hamilton
I found the following:
John Gebbie (Head) (U) 68 years HLW Born Hamilton
Isabella Gebbie (Sister (U) 65 years Tambourer Born Hamilton
Jean Buchanan  neice (U) 20  Tambourer born Hamilton

Jean Buchanan was the daughter of my William Buchanan and Martha Gebbie who lived at 9 Young St. along with grandchildren named Hamilton on 1851 c and then grandchildren Hamilton, Wingate and Simpson on the 1861c.

I think I can be fairly certain that Martha Gebbie and John and Isabella Gebbie were siblings and that their father was William.  I shall now try to trace the names Catrine (Katherine) and Joseph.  Gebbie is such an unusual name especially in Hamilton.  I have found some in the surrounding area and will now go back to my notes.

Thankyou so much.

My gggg grandparents were Mungo Lang and Jean Stirling (Yes, I had two Jean  or Janet Stirlings).  These were the parents of Marion Lang who married David Wilson (parents James Wilson and Jean Stirling). In census records Marion was born in Hamilton and died 1861.

Is there by any chance any early record of a William Smellie Frame and Janet Smellie who married around 1800? Supposed to be the parents of my ggg grandfather William Smellie Frame (Smellie or Smallie Frame) who lived in Union St. and died 1860 and this was the record on his DC.

I know I am being greedy but if you have any of these records at hand, they may contain some of the answers.   Thanks again, Heather (Australia)
