Thanks for the info. Yes, I would be interested in the info that you have on the family. At the moment I believe that Sarah Jacka was the unwed mother of Richard, but I don't really know what happened to her ie I can't find a later marriage or death record. It is interesting that Richard's death certificate says his father (referred to as Richard Jacka) was a shoemaker. There is a Richard Carbis, shoemaker, on the 1861 census who has a wife named Jane, aged 26 on the 1861 census. I wonder if this is the Jane Jacka, Sarah's sister shown on the 1851 census, aged 17. But I haven't yet found their marriage record. I think the reversal of the Carbis and Jacka surnames on Richard's death certificate, and also the spurious name of William for Richard's father on his marriage certificate is just a cover-up of the illegitimate nature of the birth. However, it does look like John and Elizabeth are the proper ancestors in this family tree, so I would be very interested in your findings.
