Thank you so much Ticker for suggesting Familhistoryonline. I tapped in the name I was researching but got no result, but when I tried just the surname a whole host of Iliffes appeared in that area. and there i'd been thinking they'd been eliminated!
So now I have to lash out on a pay voucher to check them out.
You know I'd given up on these ancestors, but thanks to you I'm hot on the trail again. Whats the saying "when one door closes....." Best wishes Louisa.

Hi Dreamer. Such a while since I posted that message, I'd given up.
Still no further forward, except that Ticker very kindly suggested I try Familyhistoryonline. No luck when I tapped in William Iliffe but when I just put the surname in I got a whole host. So now I think I have to lash out on a pay voucher to check the results.
I'm always open to suggestions as have been chasing these ancestors for years and they are so elusive, so yes wield your sledgehammer by all means. Who knows what we may find in the rubble! Good luck with your own researchand thanks for interest. Louisa

Hi Louisa

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Best wishes

Ticker

Thanks for asking Ticker, much appreciated. No further forward I'm afraid. At a loss as to where I go from here, if anywhere! Louisa

Thanks Kathy. Will keep my fingers crossed.I haven't had any success with Edward and Mary Iliffe other than the record of birth of their son William in 1806 and daughter Ann in 1802. they seem to have vanished into thin air!
Good luck with your own research Louisa.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Iliffes / Cleckheaton

Still hopeful of receiving any information on descendants of Edward and Mary Iliffe m.Birstall 1802
William, their son was born at Cleckheaton in1806 and found on Manchester 1851 census.
Are there still Iliffes in the Cleckheaton area?
Is it possible they may be on the 1841 census?
Would be grateful for any help. Louisa

Thanks for reply KathyM. I just love it. Heckmodndwike,Gomersal, Cleckeaton, its like a song title, just rolls off your tongue. Fascinating too about the luddites, must read up my Shirley again. William moved to Manchester and I read recently about the conditions there in the early 1800's, in the working class areas. How they survived it all is amazing. No wonder their daughter Eliz. escaped thro' marriage to Eyam, Derbys.
I was surprised to hear Iliffe is not uncommon name in that area. Yes please I'd really appreciate you putting the name in your local family history group. Who knows what might result. Thanks again for your interest and good luck with your own research. Louisa.

KathyM Many thanks for your interest. For a moment I thought "at last". Have been chasing these Iliffes for donkeys years, still think that one day something will pop up! Don't know Yorkshire intimately being a Derbyshire Lass originally, so am not sure if information re Sykes is any help to anyone, or Liversidge as given to Ticker.
Hope you will keep the name in mind and thanks again for your interest. Regards Louisa.

Hallo Ticker. Have only just found your message, but thanks for your kind enquiry. Brick wall I'm afraid. I've rechecked my certificates and find  Ann Iliffe, d.of Ed. and Mary b.1802 of Sykes in the township of  Liversidge in the parish of Birstall. Her brother William b.1806 from Cleckheaton. Don't know if this helps any? You would think somewhere there'd be the odd Iliffe still around. wouldn't you!!? Thanks again for your continued interest. Louisa.
