Ireland / First Names Martha Matilda
« on: Tuesday 28 February 17 21:30 GMT (UK)  »
My great great grand mother was called the double barrel first names  Martha Matilda she was born in 1846 in Ireland the name was very rare in the area which I find strange why her parents who were very poor Roman Catholic at the time used the name Martha Matilda instead of the usual Irish names. I have done a google and it would appear that using the format Martha Matilda together was very popular in parts of the UK and perhaps the US and further afield. I would like understand why this double barrel format was popular as might help me understand how my 3rd great grand parents might have decided to use it.

US Lookup Requests / Lionel John Conway from Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota
« on: Friday 04 September 15 16:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi I have hit a brick wall with trying to establish the parents names of a Lionel John Conway from Minnesota.

Here is the facts I know

He married Evelyn Mattson on 22nd Oct 1928 Brown, South Dakota
He is in 1930 & 1940 Census in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota with his wife.

I cannot find a birth for Lionel John Conway c.1906 in Minnesota I have found a few John's but no Lionel's.

I have looked in 1910 & 1920 Census I have found a few John Conway's that might match.

I also cant find his death record/index on social security index etc.

I found his wife died 4 SEP 1990 • Scottsdale, Maricopa, Arizona, USA

Would really appreciate any help trying to establish his parents names

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Skeleton in the Closet
« on: Sunday 07 September 14 07:51 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if there are any experts on Autosomal DNA that could give me some advice.
My cousin and I took the Autosomal test and its shows we arent related at all (only very very far out and saying 7 to 8 generations less than 8cm's) when it should say 2 to 3 generations. This kinda confirms a family rumour does anyone know if it is possible for a 2nd cousin once removed to have as low a match as 8cm's or below? There is also a fact that my grand uncle's name is not on her grandmother's baptism or birth cert father's name is left unknown.

World War One / War Medals
« on: Monday 27 January 14 19:24 GMT (UK)  »
This question probably being asked a hundred times before. But I am just wondering what happened to the War Medals of those that died in the great war. I have a grand uncle and two great grand uncle that all died in the Great War and none of my family have ever heard about their medals. I know they all earned The Victory and The Star medals. Would the medals have being posted to their next of kin?
