England / SARGEANT - HILL Marriage, c1721
« on: Thursday 19 December 13 15:34 GMT (UK)  »
After many years of searching, I have finally come across a lead (Find My Past, citing the Society of Genealogists) for the marriage of my 6x great-grandparents Edward Sargeant and Elizabeth Hill. The information provided is:

License date: 29 Nov 1721
Groom: Edw'd SARGEANT
Bride: Elizabeth HILL

Unfortunately there is no other information provided, such as the location or parish.  The only other clue I have is that Edward and Elizabeth baptized their son Thomas Hill Sargent, Jan 18, 1723, in Twickenham, Middx.  They also had a second son, Edward, my 5x great-grandfather, around the same time, but his baptism has not yet come to light.

There are several variants for the SARGEANT name including: Sergeant, Sargent, Sergent, Serjeant, Sarjeant, etc.

I would greatly appreciate any help that could be provided by the experts on the board to locate the parish for the marriage.  And, of course, if any of this rings a bell with anyone reading this post, I would love to hear from you to compare notes.

Many thanks in anticipation,

rthom

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Oundle Baptism Lookup Please - ASCHAM
« on: Friday 23 March 12 19:29 GMT (UK)  »
I would greatly appreciate a lookup in the Oundle baptism register for baptisms for the children of Samuel & Mary Ascham from 1731 to 1748. The name has a variety of phonetic spellings including Askham, Askom, Askum, Ascham, etc.

Freereg has the baptisms of Mary 1727/8, Anne 1728/9, and Samll 1730, but then there is an 18-year gap before the baptisms of William 1749 and Edward 1750, evidently to the same parents.

I have my fingers crossed that the register isn't damaged for these years.

Many thanks in anticipation,

rthom

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Hockliffe baptism lookup please: James Simons abt 1791.
« on: Tuesday 28 September 10 17:56 BST (UK)  »
I would greatly appreciate a lookup in the baptism register for Hockliffe for my G3-grandfather James Simonds (or variants) who, based on his death certificate in 1874, appears to have been born about 1791. Census records give us an estimated birth date ranging from 1792-1796, and he consistently maintains that he was born in Hockliffe, Beds.

On the IGI (Batch P003591), there is a Samuel & Ruth Simonds baptizing children in Hockliffe around this time, but no sign of James.

Thanks in anticipation, rthom

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Linslade Parish Records -- ADAMS

I would greatly appreciate a lookup in the Linslade PRs for the baptism of Thomas (and possibly John) Adams in about 1895-1805.

Warwickshire / Early Warmington Parish Records
« on: Tuesday 27 July 10 22:47 BST (UK)  »
I am aware that the parish registers for Warmington St Michael do not start until 1636. My question is what would be the most likely parish or parishes for baptisms, marriages and burials for residents of Warmington before this date?

I have searched the neighbouring parishes of Mollington and Cropredy in Oxfordshire, which have registers dating to 1565 and 1538, respectively, but with no success.

Thanks, rthom

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Ivey Family of Romsey -- Where did they go?
« on: Wednesday 19 May 10 16:56 BST (UK)  »
I am very interested to know if anyone on the board has a connection with the Ivey (Ivy) family that was living in Romsey for at least 5 generations from before 1600 to the mid-1700s. If so, I would love to know where the family moved to. ???

I have an Ivey family in Farnham, Surrey, which first appears in the parish baptism register in 1775, so I am hoping there might be a connection with the Romsey family. One clue is that the Farnham family were all smiths (blacksmiths, whitesmiths, coachsmiths), and there is a William Ivey in Romsey who marries Elizabeth Jenvey (Ginway) in 1737/8 giving himself as a blacksmith. This latter William Ivey has a son William bp in 1738/9 in Romsey who is a possible candidate for the patriarch of the Farnham line. Another clue is that many members of the Farnham Ivey family were non-conformists, so that may help shed some light on the movements.

Thanks in anticipation,

Surrey / Epsom Workhouse "Middle House" in 1941
« on: Friday 05 February 10 22:52 GMT (UK)  »
I would be interested if anyone knows whether the Epsom Workhouse (aka "Middle House") was still functioning as such in 1941 or whether it had evolved into a nursing home or similar.

Thanks, rthom

Berkshire Completed Look ups / George IVEY -- Marriage lookup please, c1805 - COMPLETE
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 18:28 GMT (UK)  »
I would greatly appreciate a lookup on the Berkshire marriage index for the marriage of George IVEY and Sarah (Louisa), sometime around 1800-1805. George and Sarah baptized several of their children in nearby Farnham, Surrey, in the period 1805-1810, so I am hoping that their marriage would have occurred in a parish in the neighbouring county.

I posted a similar request on the Surrey and Hampshire boards, but unfortunately drew a blank:

If anyone is interested, a thread on George Ivey, a coachsmith of Paddington, was originated on the London & Middlesex board:

Thanks in anticipation!
