I'm becoming an expert on trawling through Italian documents, but still haven't conquered the handwriting.

Trying to decipher the two circled parts please. The first is the father's name, the second is the mother's surname.

Thanks for your assistance!

Hi,

No translation needed - I just want confirmation of the names circled.

The first is the surname of the bride. The second and third are the last name and first name of the bride's mother.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jenni

Lancashire / Help finding Speakman family on 1861 census
« on: Friday 29 May 20 01:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I've looked and looked but need some help with this one please.
William Speakman (b. Rostherne, Cheshire 1820) married Elizabeth PArker (b. Chipping, Lancashire 1832) in Liverpool in 1856. A month later they had my 2xGreat-grandfather, Joseph Parker Speakman in Liverpool.  They then had the following children, all born in Barton-upon-Irwell and verified on GRO.
Jane Elizabeth 1859 (unmarried with her father on 1881 census in Manchester)
Sarah Ann 1862
John Robert 1868
William George 1868 (died 1869)
Elizabeth died in Jan 1871 so she isn't on that census.William dies in 1894.
I can't find the family in the 1861 census and I can't find Joseph on a census until after his 1879 marriage to my 2xgreat-grandmother, Charlotte Conway.
Can anyone help locate these children on the 1861 and 1871 census?
Many thanks!
Jenni

Carmarthenshire / Help finding out more about David John James b.1899
« on: Wednesday 06 November 19 04:37 GMT (UK)  »
I’m researching my husband’s great-great grandmother, Mary James and recently discovered she married a John Davies in Llanelly and was with him and his family on the 1911 census.
I got John’s will today and in it, he refers to his step-son David John James.  On the 1911 census, he was 12 and had the surname Davies but we all know how that happens.
So my challenge now is to find his birth and where he was in 1901, 1939, his death and possible marriage and children.  Many heads are better than one (and mine is sore with a cold today) so I’d appreciate any leads or assistance.
Thank you!

Carmarthenshire / Searching for Mary James - birth mother of Rachel Mary James
« on: Saturday 11 May 19 07:40 BST (UK)  »
Can someone help me focus my search please?

Rachel Mary James was born 2/9/1896 in Llansawel, daughter of Mary James. No father was named and informal was David James, occupier.  David could be Mary’s brother or father?

Rachel appears on the 1901 census as Rachel Mary Evans, adopted and in 1911 as Rachel Mary James, step-daughter of James James.  She marries David Parry Jones in Llansawel in 1916.

But I can find no information to link her to the right Mary James who would be her mother. I followed one line but it had Mary as being born around 1850 which would have made her quite old to have Rachel in 1896 but...?  A DNA link with a 4th cousin seems to suggest this could be right, but then what happened to Mary and when did she die?

Can anyone help? I’m drowning in the many similar names here and it’s easy to take the wrong path.

Thank you!

Cornwall / Did a father have to be present to be named at a baptism? - SOLVED
« on: Friday 16 November 18 09:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help me with this question. I have an ancestor who was born in Cornwall in 1876. He was named William Henry Williams on the birth certificate, no father listed and mother was Gertrude Johns. That alone is unusual to start with, isn’t it? Normally if the father isn’t listed, the child has the mother’s surname but not here.

Then I found the baptism and he becomes William Henry Albert Williams and the father is listed as William Henry Williams and occupation listed.  So... could Gertrude have gotten her son baptised without the father being present or him agreeing to this? Or does this imply that the parents were possibly “together” at least at this point?  They never married.

All future records for the child referred to Albert Johns, so this is why I’m questioning how the father came to be acknowledged at the baptism.

All thoughts and ideas appreciated!

Thanks,

Jenni

England / Census records for 1871 and 1881 for Emma Ollington?
« on: Monday 23 July 18 12:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I’m hoping you can help me find Emma Ollington, born in Thetford, Norfolk in 1851.
I’ve got her on the 1851 census with her mother Harriet. In 1861, she’s listed as Emma Millen with her mother’s new family in Folkestone, Kent.
But then I can’t find her until 1891 and she’s married Ambrose Jolley in Paddington, London.
I’ve seen Ollington spelled Allington and tried that. I’ve searched for Millen. Any other suggestions? Often I’m missing something obvious which is why I’m turning to you lovely people to help me out please.
Thank you so much!
Jenni.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Deciphering convict conduct record
« on: Friday 25 May 18 01:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

You've previously given me help with this conduct record, but there's one more thing that's got me stumped.

I can't tell if this says Bad, Bao, Bae or what it means in the context of the line.

I've tried looking at abbreviations and place names in Tas/VDL but no luck.

Just in case it help, here's a link to the source: http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON33-1-70,313,185,F,60

Can anyone help please?

Thanks,

Jenni
