I would like to find the baptism record for my 2G-grandfather James Clark who was born in (?January) 1836. I believe he was born in Huddersfield. His father was John Clark, a wool dealer, and his mother was Hannah [surname unknown]. In June 1859, James married Hannah Hatton at Queen Street Chapel, Huddersfield. She was a Wesleyan Methodist and I suspect that James Clark was also, although he later trained as a Church of England priest ending up as Archdeacon of Antigua by the time he died in 1895. So far I have been unable to trace a birth record for him. I think it is possible that he may have been baptised at Queen Street Chapel. Can anyone help? Incidentally, I am also looking for any information at all about John Clark.

I understand that a picture of Rev John Wingfield (b. Tickencote, 1734;  m. Sarah Beckett; d. 1773 and b. Market Overton) used to hang in the Vestry of the Church at Market Overton.

Is it still there and can anyone send me a copy of it, please? I tried contacting the church to no avail some years ago; then decided to try Rootschat, hoping that there might be some person here, maybe a churchgoer in Market Overton, who might know.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / A mystery word on a baptism record - maybe Latin?
« on: Saturday 27 September 14 14:04 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone decipher this word for me, please? It is under a date of birth that is clearly written in the margin of a christening record of 1861. The person being baptised (in Yorkshire) was born in Ireland, maybe Killarney, but I can't find any place on the map that looks like this word. Or perhaps it is a Latin phrase? Any suggestions as to what it says would be most welcome.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Loughborough All Saints Church - HUNT - 1700s
« on: Tuesday 12 March 13 16:02 GMT (UK)  »
Is there some kind person willing to help me, please? I would like to discover whether there is a tombstone or memorial to a Samuel or Thomas or John HUNT in the Loughborough parish church/yard. According to an old letter (1930s) in my possession, there was once a tombstone there referring to three generations of HUNTs, the furthest back being a Samuel Hunt (1686-1773).

Samuel Hunt's sons were Thomas & William. Thomas & his nephew John practised as doctors at Loughborough. Dr Thomas' son was (Reverend) Samuel Hunt (1747-1814) who attended the grammar school at Loughborough, went to St John's Cambridge and later became Rector of Tickencote, Rutland; he married (eloped with) Sarah Wingfield in 1774 and had eleven children. One of them, Mary, married Rev Lansdown Guilding, a botanist clergyman in the West Indies.

If anyone can help, or perhaps look up the parish records for any of the HUNT names, (Sam/Tom/John), I would be tremendously grateful. I appreciate this is a bit of a long shot as there are so few dates and details to go on.
