Somerset / Paul GAY in Bath
« on: Friday 18 February 11 13:54 GMT (UK)  »
I don't know if anyone can help, but I'm trying to find out more about one of my ancestors, Paul Gay.
I think I found him in the 1841 census, living in Bath with Elizabeth Gay (hopefully his wife).  He appears on his son's marriage certificate in 1842, profession 'Mason'.  And I found a marriage in 1813 on Family Search of a Paul Gay to Elizabeth Vagg in St. James, Bath.
Apart from these entries, I cannot find a trace of a birth registration, the birth registration of his son, Moses, or any other siblings.  I am traveling to Bath this summer to see what else I can find out, but in the meantime would like some more facts to work with.  Are there any lists of Masons working in the Bath area?  (When googling, all I get are Freemasons!)  Anyone have any ideas where I could look for birth registrations?
In hope ;D

Graveyards and Gravestones / Lack of burials
« on: Saturday 17 October 09 15:51 BST (UK)  »
I'm sure this topic has been covered before, if so, please point me in the right direction.
I have been tracing my husband's ancestors in rural Aberdeenshire, and have found all sorts of records of marriages and births, but very little in the way of deaths.  We actually made a trip to Scotland last summer, and I had a look around the graveyards in all the little villages that his ancestors lived in.  Nearly all the churches were originals - but no graves pertaining to our family!
So my query - if they weren't buried in the local graveyards, where were they interred?  Back garden?  Fields?
Any help welcomed.

« on: Sunday 19 July 09 10:34 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to find an IVEY family in the 1841 census, and am nearly ready to admit defeat.  I am really hoping one of you more experienced folk will be able to spot them.

The details I have are as follows:

James IVEY Head born c1801 Middlesex
James IVEY son born c1826 Hammersmith or Tottenham, Middlesex
Robert IVEY son born c 1826 Holloway, Middlesex

I do hope someone can find them.

Would anyone know if this is a common name in Ireland - or if there is any particular area that the Overtys may have lived?

London and Middlesex / Priscilla Ivey - nee 'Bosher'
« on: Friday 14 March 08 15:33 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I 'm having a problem with the above lady that I hope you bright experienced people can help with.
I am helping my sister-in-law trace her tree, and this is one of her ancestors. Family lore has is that 'Priscilla Beaujoie' was a French midwife.  I have found the correct marriage entry on FreeBMD for James Ivey and Priscilla Bosher in Edmonton June qtr 1851, but  I am unable to find any trace of Priscilla or her family on the 1851 or 1841 censuses, and I have tried every spelling of the name I can think of.  Please see if someone can locate her and her family.

I also found Patricia Ivey as a widow on the 1871 census, but I cannot read her profession.  If anyone could help with that I would appreciate it.  Sorry cannot put the clipping on here, travelling with laptop, and haven't the right photo programme on here to do so.

Any help gratefully received!

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / 1861/71 Censuses - OVERTY
« on: Thursday 18 October 07 13:58 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if you sharp-eyed people could help.  I've lost a family that I think are based in Nottingham.
Head: Thomas Overty b.c1816 possibly Ireland.  Died (cert. not yet rcvd) 1863 in Nottingham.
Wife: Bridgett b.c 1819 Sligo, Ireland,  died (not yet confirmed) 1885 in Nottingham.
Son: Stephen b. 30/11/1858 St. George, Birmingham, Warwickshire.

I have been unable to find the family in the 1861 or 1871 censuses in either Birmingham or Nottingham.
In the 1881 census they appear as Overby in Nottingham St. Mary, and Thomas has died.
But in between..........?
I need to find out where Thomas was born, did Stephen have any siblings, and where where Thomas & Bridgett married.
Any help would be gratefully received.

The Common Room / Searching by address in Ancestry.com
« on: Wednesday 25 July 07 16:05 BST (UK)  »
I'm sorry if this topic has already come up, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Does anyone know if it is possible to search by address in Ancestry.com?  My GGrandfather was illegitimate, and the only clue I have to his mother is her name and the address she was living when she registered his birth.  As he was born in 1866, I was hoping to look at the same address in the 1861 & 1871 censuses (censi?) and see if his mother and/or family was still at that address.
Would appreciate any advice.
