The Common Room / Talbot - brick wall
« on: Wednesday 25 May 16 12:39 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out information about a family my grandparents were close to and were my Dads godparents. They lived at Model Farm, Cheddington on the Mentmore border in Buckinghamshire in the 1940s and 1950s. The farm is now called Mentmore Park Farm.

Len Talbot who was a dairy farmer but from cattle show results is listed as T. F. L. Talbot
Children:
Pamela, a showjumper in the 40s and 50s. One newspaper article has her competing in the 14-16 age catagory in 1948 so would put her birth year about 1932-1934
Maisie, quite close in age to Pam from what I can tell from photographs.

1939 survey has a Tom F. L. Talbot b1900 and a Gladys Nm Talbot b1903 in Buckinghamshire and 2 others, presumably the children.

I have tried looking for birth entries for the children and a marriage for their parents but can't seem to get anywhere.

Any ideas?

Armed Forces / British Army Muster Books and Pay Lists - Lookup
« on: Friday 12 June 15 19:01 BST (UK)  »
Could someone please look on Ancestry at this new record for a Joseph Wood or Joseph Woods. All I know of him is that he was in the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards and his daughter Eleanor was born in Westminster in 1834. He is listed on her marriage certificate in 1854 as being deceased. Am really stuck with him and the Grenadier Guards archives won't do a search for him without a birth year or death year.
Any info would be a great help.

Thank you

London and Middlesex / Joseph Wood - Westminster (i think!)
« on: Friday 08 November 13 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
I am completely stuck with a relative of mine Joseph Wood who according to his daughter Eleanor's marriage certificate in 1854 in Westminster was a Private in the 1st Battalion of the Greanadier Guards, the certificate also lists him as being deceased.

I cannot find them on the 1841 or 1851 census.

Eleanor was born about 1835 in St Marylebone/Westminster according to later census after she was married so i know he must have died between 1835-1854.
There are 3 poss deaths listed in Westminster between those dates one in 1838 one in 1843 and one in 1845. I have ordered the last 2.

I emailed the Greanadier Guards archivist with all the info i have to see if they would have any records but according to them i need to provide them with more i.e a birth date or a service number.

Any ideas on how i can find more information about Joseph? I would love to have some of his service information and be able to get back further on this line as i know of no wife or other children of his to be able to look that way.

Ayrshire / Newmilns cemetery's
« on: Monday 02 September 13 20:35 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if anyone knows the names of the cemetery's in Newmilns. My family are meant to have a lair (is that the right word?) dating from before 1915 but I do not know the location and as they lived in Newmilns I presume it must be a cemetery there. I would love to find it and find out who is buried there.
