Derry (Londonderry) / Robert Edward Browne
« on: Thursday 21 February 13 13:16 GMT (UK)  »
I have been trying to help a friend with research and have come upon a dead end on a family member.  Robert Edward Browne was born on 9/20/1865 in Londonderry and died on 8/17/1955 in Philadelphia, PA, USA according to his death cert.  On the US census in 1900 & 1920, it shows him arriving to the US in 1883, but the 1930 reflects 1885.  I have his information here in the States - his marriage to Mary L. Murtha and the rest of his days in Philadelphia.  He was a weaver as a trade here, so it is possible that was his family trade.  I cannot locate his origins in Derry and that is where I hope to find some help.  The only Robert Browne I have located in Derry is one born in February 1865 to Robert and Martha.  Does anyone see anyone else or is it possible that his information in the US is not accurate?

Thank you!

Armagh / McShane and McCann ancestors in Cullyhanna
« on: Monday 19 November 12 16:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!  I just recently located my McShane and McCann ancestors in Cullyhanna.  I was advised that they lived in the Lower Creggan and married on May 14, 1852.  Their names were Ann McShane and Bernard McCann. They were both born approx 1833.
I am trying to locate which cemetery they would have been buried in.  I have not been able to locate where and when they passed away. They had three daughters, Catherine, Mary Ann and Ellen.

Thank you!

Meath / Searching for O'Neill Family
« on: Friday 05 October 12 15:25 BST (UK)  »
Good morning!  I am starting to come back to one of my difficult lines and I am hoping to maybe have another person see something I have missed.  My 3rd g-grandmother, Ann O'Neill, was born in County Meath about 1838.  She married James McKenna, a butcher in Belfast in 1864 and remained in Belfast until her death sometime between 1901 and 1911.  I have been able to locate information on her from her marriage record, birth of her children and her residence in Belfast, but nothing prior.  The information about her birth in County Meath was from the 1901 census.  I haven't been able to pinpoint where in the County either.  I believe her to be catholic as they married in St. Malachy's Roman Church in Belfast.  I don't know how she ended up there.  If anyone is researching this family, I would greatly appreciate any help you have.

Thanks again!

Armagh / McCann and McShane
« on: Tuesday 28 August 12 00:21 BST (UK)  »
I would appreciate any help into locating information on Bernard McCann and his wife Ann McShane.  I believe they were both Roman Catholics.

Bernard was born in 1833 and married Ann McShane sometime in the 1850's.  Ann was born in 1825.  I have not been able to locate either set of parents, unfortunately, or any records pertaining to their births, marriage or deaths.  They had three daughters that I have been able to locate:  Catherine, Mary Ann (born 1853) and Ellen (born 1863).

Most of the information I have located are from Scottish records,  My 2nd great-grandmother was Ellen McCann.  Her marriage record listed her parents names.

Thanks again!

Carlow / O'Brien Family
« on: Monday 27 August 12 23:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello!  I hope to receive a little help into the research of my 4th great-grandfather, Murrough O'Brien.  He was born in the early 1800's and was married to Bridget O'Meara.  The first information I have of him is on my 3rd great-grandmother's marriage record in Dublin, 1856.  His daughter, Sarah, has also been difficult to locate birth information.  Recently, I located a prison record in Dublin, 1868.  He is listed as being from Tullow and this is the first I have been able to link him anywhere.  I know that he was already living in Dublin as of 1840, around the year of birth for Sarah.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Derry (Londonderry) / Boyle, Glenn, Bradley Families
« on: Monday 27 August 12 20:52 BST (UK)  »
I would really appreciate some help with my family in Derry.  This is what I have so far:

Charles Boyle, son of Manus Boyle (unknown mother), married Mary Glenn on 1/22/1856 in a parish named St. Columbs.  Their address is listed as Londonderry.  Mary's parents were William Glenn and Susan Bradley.  I know her siblings were William, Susanna, Susan, Jane and John.  I don't know what happened to any of them, including her parents.  William, the father, was a rope spinner and I did locate him on a voter's committee roster as late as 1838.  I would LOVE to locate where he and his wife are buried and possibly who were both William's and Susan's parents.

When it comes to Charles, I can't locate anything on his father Manus or who his mother was.  I would greatly appreciate any one taking the time to help me locate this information.  Charles and Mary had several sons.  My line comes from Edward, born 1856 in the Long Tower Parish.  Edward passed away between 1891 and 1901.  I know he was living in Paisley, but I believe he was visiting family in Ireland when he passed away.  I couldn't locate a death cert in Scotland and his wife was buried at Hawkhead in Paisley without him and some of her children instead.  He is not recorded in any cemetery there.  I am also having trouble locating where his parents, Charles and Mary, are buried.

Phew!  That was a lot! :)  I've been looking for YEARS and you know how it goes.  You almost have to take a break before you get nutty.  I took a few months off and I am back at it again.  Thanks again to anyone who might be able to give me that one clue I have been searching for!

Hello!  Would it be possible to do a lookup for any directories 1880 and prior for James Smith, a shoemaker?  Also, if it looks like they are connected to the Wilson family, I would greatly appreciate any info!

Fermanagh / Smith and Wilson Families
« on: Tuesday 21 August 12 19:29 BST (UK)  »
I would greatly appreciate anyhelp at all with this line.  I located a record for my 2nd great-grandfather, Thomas Smith or spelled Smyth, and found out he was a shoemaker in a place called Boe in the mid-1800's.  He was born in 1837 and was the son of James Smith (shoemaker) and Barbara Wilson. He was part of the Fermanagh Light Militia at 18 and then joined the Royal Scot Fusiliers. He fought in India and then moved to Paisley, Scotland.  I know he was protestant, but I do not know what church he attended.  I would love to be able to locate more information on his family.  His grandparent names, birth date, marriage date of his parents, etc.  I would love to see if I can locate where the family was buried.  I know he married Jane Roper, whom he met in Scotland, and passed away 1887 in Paisley.  Thank you for any information you may be able to help me locate!

Dublin / O'Brien Family of Deane Street
« on: Thursday 08 March 12 18:08 GMT (UK)  »
I have been having a hard time with my 4th great grandfather, Murrough (Marrogh, Morrough - spelled a million ways) O'Brien of Dublin.  He was married to Bridget O'Meara and they had at least two children that I know of - Sarah, born about 1840, and John, born 1850.  Their children were baptized at St. Nicholas and I know they lived at 11 Deane Street.  Sarah is my 3rd Great grandmother and I did locate her marriage rec in 1858 to Edward McCartin.  I would love to be able to locate anything else on Murrough.  I don't know when he was born, where, siblings, occupation, marriage date or death date.  I think he might have been buried in Glasnevin and I did locate someone in there who is a possibility, but since he is buried alone I can't confirm without a death date.  I know this is a lot to take in, but that's what we do - research multiple lines at a time, right? :)  Thanks to anyone who might be able to help!
