Europe / Yorkshire to France, then back to England
« on: Monday 29 March 10 09:14 BST (UK)  »
Cant work out why GG grandparents went to France sometime between 1871 and 1891, then came back to England.  GG grandfather was a Yorkshireman from the Huddersfield area who worked as a mechanic according to one of the census'.  Any ideas out there?

Essex / Wherer might maiden aunts be buried.
« on: Monday 29 October 07 19:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping for some help here, as I'm absolutely stuck.
2 Maiden aunts were living in Little Ilford, ST Mary the Virgin Parish, East Ham at the time of 1901 census.
Charlotte McGoverne age 31, and Kathleen McGoverne age 36.
If they stayed there, where might they be buried.  Ive looked at tons of sites for Essex but no luck.  Can anyone on here give me some ideas to go by.
Thanks
Tracy.

Midlothian / Mother born Edinburgh. Family names <McMahon . Hall
« on: Monday 15 October 07 21:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
Where would my sister start in her research for family in Edinburgh.
Our mother came to NZ as a war bride in 1945 and all we know is she lived in the West Port, her father was Hugh McMahon and mother Mary Hall.
Ive been doing internet research for 2 years on another side of family and had great luck, but wouldnt have a clue what to do in person.
Any suggestions very welcome
Sheldon.

Midlothian / Help needed with West Port
« on: Tuesday 06 March 07 23:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping someone can help me here. My Mother was born in Edinburgh, and she lived at 80 the West Port. I go on all kinds of Scottish sites in the hopes of finding something of relevance for her era but usually get zilch. She was born in 1925, her parents were Mary Hall, and Hugh Patrick McMahon. I know 1925 is a bit late for family research but I have to start with her to move backwards and I know very little of her history.
Thanks for any wee tid bits.
Tracy.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Why would a mechanic go to France between 1871-1901
« on: Wednesday 14 December 05 22:36 GMT (UK)  »
My GGGrandfather Samuel Beaumont, listed in the 1871 census as a Mechanic must have spent time working in France some time after the 1871 census and before the 1901 census when his wife was listed as a widow. But I cant work out where or why. Ive googled every possible idea but with no luck.  Does anyone have any ideas to put me on the right track. In the 1871 census he was in Liversedge.
Thanks for any help
Tracy.

« on: Monday 07 November 05 07:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I have a nephew living in Wanstead at the moment, and ancestors who were last known to be in Ilford on the 1901 census, and wondered if my nephew was close enough to Ilford to do some family tree digging for me.
I live in NZ so dont know the distances between places.
Thanks for any help
