The Common Room / Billion Graves
« on: Thursday 05 October 23 08:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi, does anybody know if there is a way to work out the last date  a cemetery has been "updated" on Billion Graves.

By "updated" I mean new names and or images have been added.

I am revisiting the Billion Graves site looking for new images, searching by cemetery, and then the deceased name.

If there is someway to see the date of the latest "update" of the cemetery, it would save a lot of unnecessary repeat searches.

thanks

Cass

Australia / Rockhampton Crematorium, Qld
« on: Thursday 07 September 23 00:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am wondering if anybody will be visiting the Rockhampton Crematorium and would be willing to take a photograph for me.

The Crematorium office has advised me that Walter Henry GOSTELOW who passed away 28.7.1966 and his wife Dorothy Jean GOSTELOW who died 28.2.1975 were laid to rest in a Family Plot being Section 3 Plot 125. I would appreciate a photo of the Plot, and memorial.

As I live in Sydney I am unable to visit the Cemetery.

Many thanks    Cass

Ireland / The Reverend Dr Gore and Archbishop Murray, Dublin Ireland 1852
« on: Thursday 17 November 22 10:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
in 1852 my GGG Grandmother and her children where sponsored  to emigrate to Australia from Ireland.

I have recently found a record of "persons of note  to whom reference can be made respecting the intended  Emigrants"

The "notable persons" recorded for the family are

The Reverend Dr Gore  and  Archbishop Murray, Dublin Ireland

The family are listed as living  "Rev Dr Gore, No 25 Queen St Dublin, Ireland."

A Google search has revealed lots of information on Archbishop Murray, located at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin, this is the church where we have found records of the Children's Baptism.

I have had no luck with Rev Gore.

I am wondering if anybody has any information on The Reverend Dr Gore.

many thanks

United States of America / San Francisco Examiner, Death/ Funeral Notices 1931 and 1936
« on: Tuesday 08 November 22 09:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi  I am wondering if someone would be able to assist me in obtaining copies of Death/ Funeral notices published in the San Francisco Examiner for two family members who passed away in the USA.

I have been lucky enough to have been assisted in locating photo of their graves by Find a Grave volunteers.

The family members are

Percy William STAPLETON (Phyllis 's son)  died 31 October 1931 and Mr Google indicates that Notices where publish in the San Francisco Examiner 3 Nov 1931

Phillis (Phyllis) STAPLETON died 26 July 1936, and a Google Search  indicates that there are notices published 28 and 29 July 1936.

Many Thanks

Australia / Randwick General Cemetery, Randwick, NSW Percy and Byron HEATH
« on: Thursday 25 June 20 01:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have found that Percy HEATH died 26 August 1926 and was buried in the Randwick General Cemetery on 27 August 1926. Percy's son Byron Rupert Percy HEATH died 19 November 1964.

The Randwick Council staff have confirmed that Percy and  Byron are buried in Section BB, Plot 49  Church of England area of the Randwick General Cemetery and have advised me that they do not keep information in regard to headstones at the Cemetery.

I am wondering if any Roots chatter have records of the Headstone/memorials at Randwick, and if so could they check if there are any details of a headstone on the Heath grave.

Isabelle Heath the wife of Percy and mother of Byron died 20 July 1971 and was cremated at Botany, the online records reveal that her ashes where "collected".  I am wondering if the ashes were placed in the grave at Randwick, the council have no records on the placement of ashes in the grave.

I have checked Find A Grave and Billion Graves, with no luck. I have located the death/funeral notices for the family including another son Hilton who is buried at Macquarie Park, and have located a photo of his grave.

Many thanks

Australia / George ASPINALL
« on: Saturday 16 November 19 04:36 GMT (UK)  »
I am wondering if anybody could help us find the Birth of
George Valentine ASPINALL son of William Aspinall and Elizabeth Hurst/Hirst

I have purchase the QLD Certificate of Marriage form completed by George when he married Louisa Hall in 1939, he was then 77 years of age.

On the form George declares that he was born February 14th, 1862 in Bendigo Victoria. ( I presume this is the reason for his second given name of Valentine)

We have searched and searched but have had no luck finding a record of his birth on the VIC BDM index, I am wondering if anybody has any other records that may help..

On Trove, there are articles regarding another George Valentine Aspinall, he may be related but is not our George.

Our George had an elder brother John, who died in Brisbane in 1937 aged 77 yrs his death cert states that he was born in Melbourne Victoria, We have had no luck finding his birth, so are hoping that if we can find George's Birth we may find Johns.

Australia / Courier Mail Funeral Notice 18 August 1986 Victoria May THOMAS
« on: Wednesday 26 June 19 11:17 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if anybody has a suggestion on how I can obtain a copy/details of a Funeral Notice
published in the Brisbane Courier Mail on 18 August 1986, page 17 for a Victoria May Thomas. Victoria died in Brisbane 14 August 1986 and there is a memorial at Toowong Cemetery, I am after a copy of the funeral notice to complete the tree details.

As a NSW resident I sent a "ask a Librarian" query to the NSW State Library, they replied that there is a notice on page 17 of the Courier Mail issue of 18 August 1986 and if I would like a copy, fill in a form and send it to them with $16.50.

Has anybody got any suggestions on how I can obtain a copy at a price lower than $16.50.

I am wondering if anybody knows of an online site for the Courier Mail in 1986, I have tried but cannot find one
