Surrey / White family Battersea, Surrey, England
« on: Monday 22 February 16 06:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am having a bit of trouble I have got Peter White born 1819 Battersea and Sophia 1819 born Marden Kent I have them on 1841, 1851, 1871. Can't find them on 1861 cencus. Have tried leaving out surname to see if it picks them up under a different surname but no luck. They had children Henry 1842, George 1846, Emma Eliza 1848, Edward 1850, Mary Ann 1852, John 1855 all born Battersea. On John's son's birth certificate (Henry Alexander John) his father is John and on cencus details he appears as John but when I followed up his mother's name Georgina Cresswell it gave the Banns of Marriage as Georgina and Henry John. Because of this I haven't been able to trace a birth or christening for John or Henry John (1855 by cencus). This seems strange as he has several other siblings and I have managed to find Christenings for all of those in Battersea St. Mary. Any ideas welcome.

I have been given details of my husband's ancestors who died in South Africa:

Annie Kelly Died 25 Aug 1932
Buried Main Cemetery, Primrose, District Germiston, Gauteng, RSA
Annie Kelly recorder's sector 12.

Husband of above in same sector died 22 Jul 1926

My query was to find out if anyone is involved in taking photos of graves for relatives who live back in England and can't get there themselves. Any help appreciated.

South Africa / Kelly/Thornley in South Africa
« on: Saturday 24 March 12 09:11 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if someone can help me. My husband's G. Grandfather was James Kelly born 1870 in Chester, Cheshire, England. We have always known that he married Annie Thornley who was born in Hyde Cheshire. We know that he went to South Africa and have photos of him at the diamond mine where he worked. I initially thought he was married over here but when I couldn't find a marriage I did various searches and find an entry for Annie travelling to South Africa (Durban) from Southampton aboard the Durban ship with mother and sister 28 August 1891. Her father Benjamin isn't listed so perhaps he had gone on ahead. I know that James is on the 1891 census over here so when did he travel and also when and where did he marry in South Africa? They had 4 children Charles Colville (My husband's Grandfather) born 1898 Germiston South Africa, Mary 1900 Durban, Philip 1902 Durban and Norah 1912 Durban. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Philip Kelly Manager Cotton Factory
« on: Monday 24 August 09 13:55 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone help me please. I have a Philip Kelly Manager of Cotton Factory according to his son John Kelly's marriage certificate. Can anyone tell me the names of likely mills he would have worked and if any records survived? I have found John Kelly, wife Mary and family on 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and Mary on 1905 census but cannot find them on 1851 census or on 1841. I don's know when they came over from Ireland but it must have been by 1846 when they were married. I have not been able to find anything further out ab out Philip.
