Australia / Help Please - WA Marriage 1917 of Antonietta Welsh
« on: Wednesday 18 July 12 03:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Hope someone can help with this, please.

I'm trying to find Antoniette Del Lungo who married Victor San Martin in Australia and then maybe Edward Welsh and lived in England.

Previous request here: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,591702.0.html

I'm probably clutching at straws but have found on Ancestry a marriage of Antonietta Welsh in 1917 in Western Australia.
Rumor has it that she may have returned to Australia. No registration number given.

Antoniette was born in 1867 and if this is her it would make her age of 50 at this marriage.

I can't find any record on the WA BDM site - any chance someone might have better resources for me?

Cheers and thanks,

Phil

Australia / Joseph Victor SARTORELLI - NSW
« on: Tuesday 17 April 12 13:33 BST (UK)  »
I'm seeking help again please.

Looking for Joseph Victor Sartorelli, born Sydney in 1908. Father Ernest Victor Sartorelli and mother is Annita.

If I can find what became of him, I might be able to track down family who know what became of his grandmother,
Antoniette Del Lungo whom I posted about recently here: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,591544.0.html

I can't find a marriage or death for Joseph and nothing after his name on a 1943 NSW Electoral Roll when he lived in
Marrickville. Have tried all the variations of his surname I can think of but have drawn a blank.

Appreciate if anyone can shed any light on what became of him.

Many thanks,

Phil

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Edward William Welsh - help please
« on: Wednesday 11 April 12 03:32 BST (UK)  »
In searching for my great-grandmothers sister - Antoniette Del Lungo, I've found a tree on ancestry where the owner says that Antoniette Del Lango married the subject Edward William Welsh born 1852. On that tree they have her as being born in New South Wales. They both appear in England 1891 and 1901 censuses in Lancashire.

I don't know if this is the Antoniette I'm looking for as the tree owner might be getting mixed up, as in the 1891 census she's listed as born in Manchester, Lancashire and in the 1901 census it says born in New South Wales.

The Antoniette I'm looking for was born in Italy in 1867 and came to Australia with the family in 1877. She married here in Sydney in 1883 and had two daughters but I can't find a trace of her after the birth of the second one. I think her husband may have passed away but there is a lot of confusion with his surname. She may well have married and gone to England.

If someone could look at the Edward William Welsh and his wife Antonietta for birth, marriage, deaths etc I'd be very thankful. I can't find anything else on them apart from the two census I mentioned and would like to know what became of Antonietta if she is the one I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Hi all,

I need some help again and have exhausted my resources searching for Antoniette M Del Lungo (also Dellungo) who was born in Florence about 1867 and came to Australia in 1877 with her parents and sister.

She married Victor Samuartin in Sydney in 1883 (Record 1307/1883).

They had a daughter in 1884 as Annita M J Samnartin - in Sydney 3419/1884 and another as Anita M J Sanmartin in 1887 - in Sydney 330/1887. Surely must be two different daughters - please note different spelling of the surname, it could also be San Martin, San Martino or just Martin.

Perhaps the daughter born in 1884 died and hence the second with an almost identical name. I can find an Annita San Martino marrying Ernest Sartorelli in Sydney in Sydney in 1905 - 6043/1905 and think this has to be a daughter of Antoniette and Victor (have her passing away in Sydney in 1954).

My problem is that I can't find anything more on Antoniette Del Lungo of Victor Samuartin and have tried all the variations on surnames and different states. I can find a mention of a Victor Sanmartin being tried for embezzlement in Sydney in August 1886.

I'd like to know what became of Antoniette and Victor if possible and qould be grateful for any help.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. I hope someone might be able to offer some advice on a problem I'm having in tracing these families. Hope I'm not being too confusing here...

Demetrio and Vittoria Del Lungo had three daughters, Vittoria (my GGM), Emma and Antoniette.

I'm looking at Emma Del Lungo who was born in Florence C. 1870 and arrived here in C.1877

I'm informed that she first married James D Marriott in Sydney in 1890 and the had two children, James Marriott B. 1890 and Ellena B. 1893.

I'm informed that she secondly married Bartolomeo Merlino, and that they had Frank, Robert, Harold, Olive and Grace.

I'm told that Ellena Marriott wed firstly Trygve Olsen or Ohlsen and they had three children and then secondly married William Roberts and they had three sons.

I can't find a record of Ellena Marriott marrying anyone in NSW.

I can find a record of an Elena Merlino marrying a Trygve Olsen in SA in 1915 (Reg No: 265/887). I don't know where Elena Merlino was born but am thinking that she might be Ellena Marriott - maybe she went with her mother Emma to SA when she married Bartholomew Merlino and maybe was adopted by him also.

I can't find any record of a marriage in NSW between Bartholomew and Emma, but can find two Merlino births with those as parents in 1902 and 1904 in NSW.

Sorry, hope this makes sense to you.

Kind regards

Armed Forces / Photo help, please to identify uniform. COMPLETED - Thanks
« on: Friday 25 November 11 08:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Can someone help with this photo please? I'm interested in identifying the uniform if possible.

The photo is of Alfred Chandler, who was the uncle of my fathers Aunt Mable. He was born C. 1866,
making him about 24 at the time it was taken. The family lived in London.

The uniform looks military to me, and this is the largest scan I have of the photo.

Hope I have the correct forum, and thanks for any help,

Cheers

Australia / Joe SANTAMARIA - Joe's Milk Bar Cronulla
« on: Monday 20 December 10 03:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm trying to find out about Joe, who married my auntie - Norma Booth in 1951.
They had no children of their own.

Joe had the milk bar at North Cronulla beach (Sydney) and was a well known local indentity. Unfortunately, I don't know much about him, whether he was born here or overseas (Italy, I presume).

His parents were Gaetano and Maria Santamaria I believe, and Joe passed away on 19 March 1996 and is buried in Waverley Cemetery here in Sydney. His wife, Norma passed away on 11 July 1994.

Joe had one sister only that I know of - Josie (Josephine?) and she married an Alwyn Nicholas and they had a daughter Elizabeth.

I would like to try and find out where he was born and when if anyone can help with any info, I'd be most grateful.

Cheers

Monmouthshire / Charles Evans
« on: Friday 15 October 10 03:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I hope someone might be able to help me go further in looking for Charles Evans - sorry if this is a bit long...

I have him in Pontypool Trevethin, on the 1841 Wales Census as a 7 year old, making him born C. 1834.

Father: Thomas Evans 30 (born Bicknor, Gloucestershire)
His wife: Sarah (Britain) 20 and they married in November 1835, so she may not be the mother of Charles.

Charles does not appear with the family on the 1851 Wales Census but I can find a 17 year old Charles on the 1851 Wales Census listed as a pauper (labourer) at Llanfrechfa.

On the 1861 Wales Census, he's back with the family in Pontypool (less Sarah) as a 27 year old sailor.

I can't find anything of him since then. The reason I ask is that his younger brother Francis Evans b. 1845 came to Australia in 1876 and died here in 1881. I always thought that Francis was my GGF, but not so, as his wife had more children after he died and I don't know who the father of these children was.

On Francis's death certificate, a step-brother Charles Evans is listed as the informant - fair chance it's the Charles Evans I'm looking for here. I can't seem to find any record of him travelling here or his death.

Any help would be great, thank you.

Hi,

Can someone please advise if more information is available on the birth of Mabel Victoria Evans - Victoria 1888?

She lived the greater part of her life in NSW and we thought she was born here but could never find a record. She did marry in Melbourne though.

Victorian Registration No: 4802. I'm interested to see more about her parents, Thomas Evans and Elizabeth Chandler.

I'd be prepare to buy a certificate but thought I'd ask firstly.

Many thanks,

Phil.
