Hello, This query is in connection with a subject I have posted in the lighter side board previously.

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=752171.9

Can anyone help with details of the Stephens youth who downed In the Avon, near Bredon, alongside Thomas Wagstaff and Daniel Trap in May 1835?

Thank you

Scotland / Missing 1881 census , Familysearch/SP ?
« on: Saturday 10 October 20 14:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi can anyone advise please, I’m obviously doing something stupid, but I can’t find the 1881 scotland census on family Search. On SP the 1881 option is not available, the tick box being shaded out with (LDS). Yet I can’t find it on Family Search. The area I was looking for is not available in ‘81 On FreeCen.

Other Countries / INDIA Calcutta Scots Cemetery COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 22 January 19 21:49 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry I added this query to another thread, but thought it might be better to put my query in its own post.

I have a grand aunt buried in the Calcutta Scots Cemetery (Elizabeth Davidson Brechin), the Stone says “Betty Taylor (married name) died 1st August 1938 E (perhaps it’s L). A.D.T”  I have no details other than the Stone, so if any one could tell me how I could start to find out why she was over there, and if possible what the acronym stands for please?

Thank you

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Marriage witness name
« on: Monday 26 November 18 23:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hello can any one make out the name of a witness to my 4 x Gt Grandparents please. It is written below William Smith, in the presence of ? I think perhaps the surname might be “adams” as that is the Brides surname, who makes a mark rather than a signature.

The Common Room / The use of the term "Gent" in BMD records
« on: Wednesday 21 November 18 13:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello I have an ancestor who in two 1780 - 1790 docs (his marriage and a baptism of his child)has the term "Gent" directly after his name. Presumably it is short for "Gentleman", but is there a designation of who would be called a "Gent" in those days? Did it mean for instance he was a property owner, or another social strata?

Thanks

Aberdeenshire / EU church Aberdeen
« on: Thursday 23 August 18 07:16 BST (UK)  »
Hello I am trying to find out what the EU church in Aberdeen was in 1896/7. There is a mention of Rev Alexander Stewart (in an RCE he filled in a schedule D certificate, changing my great uncles forename on a birth cert). I think that it was likely a “Free” Presbyterian Kirk, (perhaps Evangelical Union guess) but can’t find anything to say there was a church denomination like that.

Thanks.

Aberdeenshire / Definition of Children's births
« on: Friday 13 April 18 18:19 BST (UK)  »
I'm pretty sure I know the definitions of these descriptions of children born in 1810 in Kintore, but I can't find a site to confirm my understanding. It's just strange seeing them all together on one baptism page.

"legitimated child", (parents married after birth)
"natural child", (illegitimate child, interestingly both parents named)
"lawful child" (legitimate child)

Thanks

« on: Sunday 01 April 18 23:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi my great great grandparents are staying in Inverurie in 1871 census. Name George and Jane Still. I think it is Bakers Lane, but I cant find a bakers street in any map new or old. The other address on the page is West High St. Any other suggestions please?
