World War Two / Schwerin - Stalag IIE
« on: Friday 25 March 11 16:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.

Does anyone have any information about Stalag II E, which was liberated 2nd May 1945? Who liberated the camp, who was held there, are there any pictures available perhaps once it was liberated? There does not appear to be any useful information on this camp as far as I can see on the internet.

Many Thanks as alaways.

World War Two / Grandad - Scots Guard - help needed
« on: Wednesday 16 February 11 15:33 GMT (UK)  »
My Grandad served in the Scots Guards during WWII, Lance Sgt Robert 'Bertie' Todd, number: 2698817. He was with 3rd Battalion Scots Guards and also 'X5 List.' I have just come into possesion of his Military Records via the Scots Guards archivist.

I have a few queries which any help would be greatly appreciated!

1. He was deployed to NWE on 19th July 1944 - no details of his movements or action he may have seen are available - where could I obtain such info?
2. He came back to the UK on 1st Jan 1945 'to proceed on a course of instruction' - the military records show him as X5 List at this point - what does this mean?
3. He then returned to NWE on 16.2.1945 - he was then promoted to Lance Sergeant on 22.2.1945 - again no information on where he was or what he was doing - any info I could get on 3rd Battalion movements at this time would be fantastic
4. He was reported missing on 14.5.1945, then subsequently confirmed as a POW - no details of prison camp available - any ideas where I can obtain this information?

Hope this is not asking too much?

World War Two / Robert 'Bertie' Todd - 2nd Battalion Scots Guards
« on: Tuesday 07 December 10 17:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there - I know nothing about my Grandfather, Robert 'Bertie' Todd but am trying to start building up a profile of his life - any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What I can tell you is this: He was born in Northern Ireland around 1919 and moved to Scotland where his family settled in Auchinlech. He was a very good piper and joined the Scots Guards, where he became Boxing champion. he was in the 2nd Battalion and fought in WWII. I know nothing about his service as he did not tell anyone about his experiences. What I do know is that he was captured in the Black Forest by the Germans and held as a POW in Stalag 9.

When he got back to UK he married Julia Sweeny (my Nan) and they settled in Gosport. He worked for the Police and also as a foreman on the docks. he was a hard man with a fierce reputation.

This is as much as i know - not an awful lot but any advice, tips, information anyone can help with would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.
